Danielle shook her head. No. That couldn’t have just happened. She searched the sky, expecting to see the helicopter appear again. But it didn’t. There was nothing but the clear blue sky that seemed to mock their situation. The sky should have been dark and stormy as she felt inside. Or at least cloudy. The men around her were all screaming into their comms for Gabriel, whom she assumed was the pilot in the helicopter. From the growing urgency in their voices, she could tell that Gabriel wasn’t responding to their calls. Suddenly, Danielle heard what she could only describe as a battle cry. She turned her head just in time to see Edward run into the clearing toward the oncoming truck, shooting as he went and showing no regard for his own safety. Lorenzo went after him, shouting his name
