Lila I watched Shawn leave the room, feeling a mix of confusion and discomfort. I didn’t understand why he brought me here. I should be at school, not here with his mom. “Are you okay, sweetie?” his mom asked gently after Shawn walked out. “I’m fine, thank you,” I replied, trying to sound more confident than I felt. “Are you sure? Because you look like something’s bothering you,” she observed, her voice warm and concerned. I shrugged. “It’s fine,” I said, unsure how to explain. She studied me for a moment before continuing, “I remember that softball game your dad played in. It was fun to watch those older men out there. Take my husband, for example; he used to be athletic, but now he has a belly where his six-pack used to be.” She laughed. I nodded, still unsure where she was going
