He sat there with his hands resting loosely on the wheel, his jaw set, his eyes fixed on the empty stretch of road ahead. I turned toward him, trying to steady my voice. “Why would Maya be involved in something like that? Spying? Setting me up? She has no reason to do that to me.” It felt wrong even saying it out loud.
