I sat on the couch, hugging my knees loosely to my chest, staring at Alexander but not really seeing him. My mind was still stuck on the words he had just told me—words that seemed too heavy to belong to me, too strange to even make sense.
I had spent my whole life thinking I was just… ordinary. Average, even. I never saw myself as the kind of girl who stood out in a room, let alone someone who carried a secret this massive in her own body. But now, sitting here, I was supposed to believe that something had been hiding in me all along, waiting for the right moment to claw its way out.
