Cole’s grin widened like he’d just won a bet. “So, how’d she take the surprise?” I didn’t need to ask who he meant. “You know she’s delusional,” I said simply. “She probably thought she could keep me for herself. Now she’s being disrespectful to Faye just to prove she still has a chance with me.” Cole leaned a hand on the desk, his expression sharpening. “Then it’s up to you to put her in her place...before things get out of hand.” “I already have,” I said, my voice low. “But if she keeps pushing, she won’t like the way I enforce it next time.” He studied me for a moment, maybe trying to see if I was bluffing.
