Dogs and cats were very good friends before. They trusted each other very much. One day, two sister dogs whose name were Nung and Ning, found a fried fish left over by some campers in the forest.
“I saw it first! It’s mine!” declared Nung the younger of the two.
“I saw it first! It’s mine!” argued Ning who began to sniff at the tail of the fish.
“Stop! Let’s go ask cat Benny to divide the fish for us. What do you think?” suggested Ning.
“All right, let’s bring the fish to Benny,” Nung said after finally giving in Ning’s suggestion.
Benny readily agreed to divide the fish between the two dogs. Carefully, she gnawed the fish in two parts then took a hard look at the two pieces.
“Oh, I think this part is slightly bigger than the other,” said Benny who took a bite from the bigger part.
After this, she took another look and said, “Oh, I think this one is slightly bigger than the other,” and went on to take a little bite more on the bigger part.
Again, she examined the two parts. “Oh! Now the other part is larger!” and began to chew a little bit of it.
The two dogs, who were watching on the sides, looked on with growing anger as they saw the two parts getting smaller and smaller.
Benny went on and on until she has eaten up the whole fish.
“You’re a bad cat, Benny. You ate up the whole fish!” exclaimed Ning.
“You fooled us!” Ning and Nung attacked Benny. Benny fought back until they were dead tired.
Ning and Nung never forgot this incident. They would often advise their other sisters to beware of Benny and her kids.
They carried this angry sentiment all their lives against all cats and even warned their children about it. In time, this made all dogs naturally defensive whenever they encounter a cat that they considered their natural enemy. Thus, whenever a dog meets cat, she would snarl spontaneously at her foe, knowing she can’t trust the cat, ever.
