Chapter One

567 Words
The familiar scene of the police station came to view, making me cringe. Ofcourse I've gotten almost used to it now since I visit this place almost everyday since my mother death two weeks ago. I saw the messy red hair thrown in a bun before seeing the woman herself. Ofcourse Mrs Daunbry looks as tired as ever probably having pulled an all nighter. She smiled once she saw me and hugged me before ushering me into the interrogating room. "So...how are you doing, Esmura" She asked, piling her documents infront of her, once she made sure I was seated. The way her eyes peered through mine made me feel uncomfortable and transparent, like she could see what's going on in my head. " I'm obviously not fine" I curtly replied "You called me here for a reason, let's just get to it please" Being in the interrogating room is far more suffocating than you think of and its getting to me. "Ok. let's get to business". She opened the first file in front of her before looking back up at me " Have you heard from your dad yet?" "No" I almost teared up at the thought. A look of pity flash across her face but it dissappeared as soon as it came " What was the relationship between your dad and your late mom like? Was there any misunderstanding between them before her death?" Her sudden question ticked me off and I was on my feet immediately " What are you insunating Ma'm? That my dad killed my mom?". jusy saying it out loud made me dizzy. "I am not insunating it, there is evidence. His fingerprint was found on the murder weapon and on the victim" She calmly said like it is the fact and I'm being hysteria. " No. My dad will never do that. He'll never hurt mum". " Then explain why he's not here. He was obviously present in the crime scene and absconded after killing her. The cctv camera in the front door captured him entering into the house not long after your mum did.". she said, leaving me speechless. No. Dad didnt do it. He didn't kill mom. I repeated over and over again in my head like a chantram I fell into my seat, devastated" Dad loves mom. They love eachother. Dad would never hurt mom. He loves her. He loves her. Dad cant hurt her!!!" I screamed violently with tears streaming down my face. An understanding look replaced the earlier blank face as she grabbed my trembling hands " I know Esmura, but we've tried our best as detectives and all evidence are pointing to Mr Davi. Your father killed your mother. That's the truth". " How can you just be blunt about it?". i whispered, standing up " How can you be so blunt about it!!". I repeated, my voice coming out strong. "Esmura..."... She tried reaching for me but I was already by the entrance. "Don't try coaxing me into believing you. My dad is no murderer and I am not a kid so dont try to coax me like one". I ran out after that. I didn't stop, not even after I was out of the station, not even after I burst into the busy street of Newyork. Not until I got to the cold, empty house waiting for me....or so I thought.
