Chapter 9: Be alright

(Mate!) 

'Lilo! You're back!' I said, before catching on. 'Wait mate! No, no, no, no, no! How did he find us?!' I began panicking my vision going dark as my breathing quickened. 

"Shiloh!" I heard Malachai say as he got a bit closer. "Shiloh what's going on?"

(Not him, we have a second mate!) I put my hand over my heart and tried to clam down, I looked over at Malachai who was watching me with worried eyes. That's when I realized the smell was coming from him.

'Malachai! He's our mate?!' Lilo began pacing and yipping. Malachai pulled back with a guilty expression on his face. 

"Kai." I said weakly, he looked at me shyly before looking down, I stood up and slowly walked in front of him and held out my hand. He took a deep breath and reached his hand out and took mine, fireworks erupted under my skin and I felt a tear roll down my face. I looked at his tattooed hand and noticed the visible veins that showed under his skin. His flesh was warm and calloused, against mine which probably felt like a block of ice. "Why didn't you tell me?" I asked lightly letting go of his hand. 

"After what you went through I thought it would be better if I let you learn to trust me before I told you." He said looking up into my eyes, all I could see in his were honesty and a hint of guilt. 

"And you're okay with going slow?" I asked wrapping my arms around myself. He nodded and sat back on the bench with his hands in his lap. 

"Last night when I walked into my room and you were sleeping I decided I would go as slow as you needed, that is also the reason you found me on the couch this morning. I didn't want to leave you unprotected even though people know better than to go in my space without my permission."

"Okay...um...so what do we do now?" I asked shyly. 

"I would think we should probably find the others and then head back to the pack house seeing as you are exhausted." I smirked and tilted my head. 

"Can...I...umm..s-still get a piggy back ride?" I brought my hands up and covered my face as it began to feel hot. 

"Of course you can love, here stand up on the bench." I took my hands from my face and got up on the green painted wooden bench and faced Malachai. He smiled before turning around and backing up a step, I gingerly climbed up on his back and put my arms around his neck and my legs around his waist. He began grabbing the bags and headed toward the exit. When we got there Shane and Pearl were talking casually while Callum and Stephen were nowhere in sight. Pearl looked over at us and smiled lightly while Shane full on beamed. 

"We were wondering where you two went." Pearl remarked. 

"I got tired." I said softly. 

"Oh, sorry I really like shopping." I giggled and looked around for Stephen and Callum, finding them walking out of a*****e to our right. Stephen's eyes found mine and he looked at Kai and I before smirking and walking over. 

"Congratulations on the return of your wolf." He said stopping when I tensed up. 

"Thank you Alpha." I said lightly. 

"Stephen, when we aren't in formal meetings, I'm not as boring as Shane." I smiled and let out an amused breath while Shane huffed, Pearl cackled but stopped when Shane glared at her. 

"I love you." She said batting her eyelashes and looking up at her mate innocently. 

"Yeah yeah, lets go home." He said rolling his eyes and putting his arm around her waist. I giggled and put my head down on Malachai's shoulder. He made his chest rumble when he chuckled before he walked us out to the vehicles, my bags went in the back of the SUV before Malachai set me down next to Pearl. 

(P: Do you mind if I ride home with Shane in the SUV?) Pearl mindlinked me.

(S: That's fine, I'll be okay with just Malachai.) She nodded and I went to the shot gun seat of Malachai's car while she slid into the other vehicle. Once I was in my seat I buckled myself up, he slid down into the driver's seat. He smiled at me before looking behind us as he backed out of the parking space. This time Malachai drove ahead of them and we put on some upbeat tunes. I giggled while singing my heart out, Kai kept chuckling and added some vocals here and there. By the time we got back to the pack house it was 3:00pm, Pearl, the guys and I carried the bags up to our respective rooms. Malachai stayed behind and helped me unpack my things and put them in drawers and the closet. 

"Is that everything love?" I nodded and grabbed some of the new clothes and went into the bathroom and took a shower. Once I was clean I got dressed in the pair of soft grey shorts and black t-shirt along with the shin high hamburger socks I got. I saw a piece of paper on the blanket and read the sloppy handwriting. 

{I have training, then rounds I'll see you at dinner love.} I smiled and made the bed before heading into the living room and curling up on the couch with Kai's blanket. I put on a show called South Park, I watched it for a moment before switching it over to a show called Doctor Pol. I sighed and pulled the blanket up to my nose and inhaling Malachai's scent before drifting off into a deep sleep. 

I was awakened when someone shook my shoulder, I reluctantly opened my eyes and looked at Pearl who was looking down at me neutrally. I sat up and rubbed my eyes before yawning and looking around. 

"Time?" I asked. 

"5:30, lets head down to dinner and meet the guys there alright?" I nodded and we headed down to the mess hall. Pearl sat next to a tired looking Shane and I sat on her other side, I crossed my legs and sat on them as my food was served. I folded my hands in my lap and waited until I could eat, Stephen finally strolled in shirtless with Malachai right behind him. They both only had on sport shorts, giving me a fantastic view of the tattoo sleeve on Malachai's left arm. I also noticed the eagle on his chest right above his heart. He also had a Celtic tree of life tattoo on his right hip, I released a tense breath and sent Kai a small smile when he looked at me. I was given a smile back as he joined us sitting his ass down in the seat right next to mine. 

"You look tired love." He said softly while resting his chin on his shoulder. 

"My nap was interrupted." I said back with a small yawn, his turquoise eyes shined in amusement at my action. I watched as he sat up straighter and ran his left hand through his sweat drenched dark brown hair. His rectangular jaw was relaxed and his cheeks were a rosy pink color, I noticed that he was taking small shallow breaths as he began to cool off. His skin was a golden beige color that looked incredible with the black ink that sat on his skin. "I like your tattoos." I said to him. He turned to me with a huge smile that showed off two perfect dimples in his cheeks along with incredible perfect pearly white teeth. 

"Well that's a relief, they're kinda permanent." I giggled and smiled down at my lap. I looked over at Pearl and Shane who took a bite of their food, before I looked Stephen who was chewing his food silently. Once all the Alpha's had swallowed I began eating my chicken and asparagus. Dinner was silent at the head table where I was seated, the rest of the pack was carrying conversations with their families making me miss mine. When I was done with dinner I looked down and covered my mouth with my hands trying to hide another yawn. 

As per usual fashion I waited for the Alpha's to leave, once they did I trudged back up to the room while Malachai talked with Callum and Gilly. I walked into the bedroom and pulled off my shoes and pants before slipping out of my shirt and pulling on a different large hoodie from the one I had worn earlier. I turned off the lights before shutting the door so there was a small crack, then I got into bed and curled up into a ball and drifted off to sleep. 

In the middle of the night I was pulled from a vivid nightmare by Malachai, he was staring down at me in worry as he cupped my face and used the pads of his thumbs to wipe my drenched cheeks. 

"What happened love?" He asked. 

"I was back in the basement, and he was there with Reed. It was like I had never even left." I said choking on a sob. I put my arms around his neck and pulled my face into his hard shoulder and cried. One of his hands held the back of my head while the other rubbed my back over his sweater. 

"It's okay now baby, I've got you." He said putting his face in my shoulder. We sat like that for a while before I pulled away and wiped my face. 

"You're a warrior right?" He nodded. "Can you teach me, I know a few things but I want to get better." Malakai sighed before taking one of my hands in his. 

"I would love nothing more than that, but first I need you to put on some weight. I'm not gonna train you while you look like a skeleton. Once you're in good health, then I'll coach you." I nodded and layed back down while still looking at him. 

"Will you stay here until I fall back asleep?" He nodded and moved over to my right side and layed on top of the blankets before facing in my direction. 

"I'll protect you love, get some sleep." I nodded and turned back around before drifting off. 

"Thank you Kai." I said sleepily right before I faded into the darkness
