Unbreakable

Chapter 3

It’s been three weeks since the party. I have managed to avoid him so far. Tomorrow is our birthday party and I am dreading it knowing I will have to face him again. I have been able to keep busy and not to think too much about what happened that night. My brother has been going to work with my dad most days. He will become the next beta when Carter takes over as alpha.

We are both staying home today though getting as much rest as we can. We will need it since tonight we will shift for the first time and finally meet our wolves. I am excited and nervous at the same time. I just hope it’s quick and not too painful. I can’t wait to see what our wolves will look like. I head to the living room and see my dad sitting on the couch watching tv. My mom is curled up on her favorite chair reading a book.

“ Hey kiddo, what’s up” my dad says as I sit down next to him on the couch.

“Not much just thinking about tonight”. I say

“ Oh don’t worry to much about it you will do fine. I remember my first shift and it wasn’t so bad. It will be over before you know it and we will be right there with you” he says.

“ Yeah I guess you’re right.” I say. I sit there watching tv for a little bit then decide to head back up to my room for a nap. I lay down on my bed until sleep takes over.

I must of been tired because when I wake up I notice it’s dark outside. I pick up my phone to check the time and see it’s already eleven at night. At midnight is when our shift will take place. I get up to use the bathroom and get myself ready to leave. I put on a pair of shorts and a tank top and slip on my sneakers. I tie my hair up into a messy bun and head downstairs. My parents and brother are already downstairs waiting.

“ You ready for this?” my brother asks.

“ As ready as I’ll ever be” I say back.

“ Alright you guys it’s time to go” my dad says.

We head out the back door and walk into the woods that line our back yard. We continue walking for about a mile until we come to a clearing. The moon is shining directly above us. My brother and I stand in the middle of the clearing and my parents stand together off to the side. I see my dad look down at his watch checking the time.

“ It’s 11:59. almost time” my dad says to us.

My heart starts beating faster and my hands start getting clammy. I look over at my brother and he gives me a reassuring smile. I start to feel pressure in my head. I think this is it. My skin starts to tingle like I have a thousand bugs crawling all over me. My heart feels like it going to beat out of my chest. I look down and see gray fur sprouting from my fingers and hands. I feel a sharp pain in my back and hear the popping of my bones. I fall to the ground and try not to scream. I hear my brother groaning in pain beside me. My vision gets blurred and I feel like my head will explode. I can feel my bones twisting into its wolf form. Finally, after what feels like forever the pain stops. I open my eyes and see gray fur. I look around me and notice my sight has heightened along with my smell. All of a sudden I hear a voice inside my head.

Hello Nova, I am your wolf Sapphire. Happy Birthday!

Thank you Sapphire, I am excited to finally meet you. I say back.

I can’t believe I finally have a wolf now. I look over to see where my brother was standing and I now see a big black wolf instead. His wolf is all black except for a gray streak running through the middle of his head to his nose. I look over at my parents. My dad is smiling and my mom has tears coming down her face. They walk over to us and I hear my mom’s voice inside my head. Now that we have wolves we can mindlink each other.

Oh Nova your wolf is beautiful. Your wolf is all gray with a black streak running down the middle of your face just like you brothers. Your wolf also has dark blue eyes. Like sapphires I think to myself.

Lets go for a run. my brother mind links me.

Yes let’s go. I say back

My parents also shift into their wolves and we all take off running into the woods. I try to race against my brother but of course he wins. I never felt so free before feeling the wind against my fur as we run through the trees. We continue running for almost an hour until we decide to head back. We get to our back yard and we all shift back. It’s still a little painful but not as much as the first time. We have extra clothes laying on our deck that we change into since our clothes got ruined during our shift.

“ That was so cool” my brother says. I nod in agreement

“ Painful but cool. what is your wolf’s name? he asks.

“ Her name is Sapphire. what about yours?” I ask as we walk into the house.

“ His name is Samson. Our wolves are the same colors just opposite.” he says while grabbing a drink from the fridge. He also hands me a bottle of water.

I smile taking a huge drink of my water. My parents come walking into the kitchen.

“ Happy Birthday you two” they say together. My mom comes over to give us a hug.

“ I’m so proud of you both” she says wiping away a tear. I look at my brother and he just shakes his head .

“ Mom, you don’t need to cry” I say

“ I know but my babies are no longer babies. Before you know it you will find your mates and be having babies of your own.” she says.

“ Oh stop it Ella” my dad says pulling her into a hug.

“ I think it’s time we head up to bed. It’s been a long night and the kids need their rest.” he says guiding her towards the stairs. We follow behind and head to our rooms. I go to my bathroom and hop in the shower before bed. I get out and dry off and put on an oversized shirt and some shorts. I get into bed and pull the covers over me. I lay there thinking about the events of tonight. I am so happy about getting my wolf I almost forgot about the party in a couple hours. I start to feel sick again thinking about the chance of running into him. Maybe I can avoid him the whole night. There will be other people around so it shouldn’t be to hard. I close my eyes and try to get a couple more hours of sleep before I have to get up to go dress shopping with the girls.

“ Goodnight Sapphire”

“Goodnight Nova” I hear her purring in my head as i drift off to sleep.
