Unbreakable

Chapter 4

I wake up to my phone pinging from a text. I pick my phone up off the nightstand and read the message. It’s from Callie letting me know that she and Gia will be here in an hour to pick me up. We are going shopping this morning to find dresses for the party. I reply back with an ok and put my phone back down.

I head to the bathroom to get ready. I brush my teeth and comb my hair before putting it back into a messy bun. I pull out some leggings and a t-shirt from my dresser and get dressed. As I’m slipping on a pair of sneakers as I get another text letting me know they are waiting out front. I grab my bag and head out to the car.

“ Hey guys”. I say as I get into the backseat.

“ Hey girl you excited for tonight?” Callie asks while turning around to face me.

“ I guess so” I lie.

We get to the mall and head to our favorite store. We start looking through the dresses picking out the ones we want to try on. Gia goes into the dressing room first. She comes back out with a form fitting pink spaghetti strap dress. It hits above the knee and it’s covered in sequins.

“ This one is my favorite. what do you think?” she asks as she does a little spin.

“ That dress was made for you. You look like a Barbie doll.” I reply.

“ Yes, that’s definitely the one” Callie agrees.

Callie goes in next. She tries on a couple different dresses. She comes back out in a red strapless dress. It has beading around the bust. The color looks great against her milky complexion, green eyes and reddish brown hair. She decides to get it. She will definitely be turning heads tonight. I go in last and look through my options. I decide to try on an all over lace black dress with long sleeves. It has a shimmer throughout as well. The dress hits right at my knee so its not to short. I go out to show the girls and they agree that this is the one. We pay for our dresses and decide to go to the food court for something to eat. We get some drinks and fries to share and find a table to sit down.

“ So do you think you will find your mate soon?” Callie asks me.

“ I don’t know. I hope so” I say grabbing a fry.

“ Is there anyone you’re hoping it will be?” she asks.

“ I never really thought about anyone in particular . I’ll be happy with whatever mate the moon goddess blesses me with as long it’s someone who will love me and protect me.” I say back.

“ Well I know I can’t wait until I find mine. I’ll be eighteen in one more month so I hopefully won’t have to wait much longer.” She says winking at me. I laugh knowing what she is insinuating.

“ Gia your birthday was almost two months ago. Do you think you think your mate is from another pack? You would think if he was from here you would have found him by now” Callie asks. Gia snaps her head up from her phone and looks at us. Callie and I give each other a questioning look.

“ Did you find your mate, Gia?” Callie persists.

“ No I didn’t find him yet. He probably isn’t from here. We should go. It’s getting late and we need to get ready for the party.” She says getting up from the table and walking away. Me and Callie get up to follow.

“ That was a little weird” I whisper to Callie.

“ Yeah just a little” she says.

We decided to get ready at Gia’s house since she has a bigger bathroom and more room for all three of us to get ready together. I curl my hair and put it in a low ponytail with pieces framing my face. I only do minimal makeup some mascara, a little bit of eye shadow and light pink lipstick. I slip on my dress and some black heels. Callie comes out of the bathroom in her red dress. She has her hair in soft curls that reach a little past her shoulders. She is wearing matching red lipstick and a brown smokey eye. Gia is is finishing up her makeup. She is also doing a smokey eye with nude pink lipgloss. Her hair is slicked back into a bun on top of her head. We each inspect our appearances in the mirror. We each nod in approval and grab our purses and head out the door.

On our way to the party, I can feel myself getting nervous. I’d rather not see Carter again and I’m hoping he keeps his distance. I will do everything I can to avoid him tonight. I wish him and my brother weren’t friends then I wouldn’t have to worry about him coming tonight. I still don’t understand why me? He could have pretty much any girl he wants and they would be willing so why come after me?

We pull up to my house and I get out hoping I don’t fall from my legs shaking from nerves. I see there are already quite of few people here from the cars parked in the driveway. We walk through the house and go through the back door out to the deck. My dad is cooking burgers and hot dogs on the grill. They have twinkling lights strung around the deck. I see the Dj is set up in the corner of our yard playing music. There are tables with different kinds of food and drinks laid out. A light breeze blows and I get a scent of cinnamon and vanilla. I wonder what my mom made that smells so good. I step down off the deck and notice my wolf is going crazy jumping up and down. I look around and notice Carter standing next to my brother. Our eyes lock together and my heart drops to my stomach when I hear Sapphire yelling Mate!
