Unbreakable

Chapter 9

I get a text the next day from Callie asking if I want to go shopping with them again to find something to wear for the banquet tomorrow. I reply back letting them know to pick me up. They respond saying they will be here shortly.

I grab my purse and throw on some sneakers and wait out on the porch. About five minutes later the are pulling up honking.

“ Hey girl, let’s go!” Callie yells half hanging out the window. I jump in the back and we take off music blaring. Instead of going to the mall we head to a cute boutique in town that we often go to when we need a dress. We find a parking spot and walk to the shop. We go straight to the back wall and start browsing their dress collection to find what we need.

“ What are you doing for your birthday, Callie” I ask pulling out a few dress options. “ I’m not sure yet . I don’t know if I want to have a party maybe just something small with you guys and a few other people. I’ll let you know” She pulls out a navy blue one shoulder floor length dress. “ That would look so good on you” I say. “ I really like this one I think I’m going to try it on”. She takes the dress and goes into a dressing room. Gia already found her dress, a floor length black dress with long sleeves. It is plain in the front with a high neck but it’s a backless dress the open almost to her butt.

“ How do I look? Callie comes back out showing off her figure in the body hugging dress. “ You look gorgeous” Gia says. “ So I heard the Alpha is announcing his retirement at the banquet. Do you think Carter found his mate and that’s why he is stepping down earlier?” Callie says from the dressing room. I fidget with the dress in my hands not liking this subject. I hate lying to my friends but I can’t bring myself to tell them. “ Not that I heard maybe the Alpha just feels that Carter is ready to take over. I know my brother is ready my dad has been training him a lot lately.”

“ Ah yes, I’ve watched him plenty when they are combat training out in the fields, talk about eye candy” Callie comes out wiggling her eyebrows. “ Ew that is my brother your talking about”. We all laugh as we go to the register to pay for our dresses.

“ Carter needs a special kind of woman to be his mate. Someone who is Luna material and can take care of all his needs” Gia says and we look at her. “ How do you know what his needs are?” Callie asks. Gia hands the cashier her card. “ I don’t I’m just saying a man like Carter will need someone to keep up with him or he will get bored” She shrugs her shoulders putting her card back in her purse. “ Its getting late, we should head back” I say trying to change the subject.

They drop me off at my house first. I tell them Ill see them tomorrow and wave as they drive off. I take my dress up to my room and hang it on my door. I decide to read for a little so I grab my book and sit on my bed.

After awhile, I found myself reading the same line over and over again. I can’t seem to focus. To many things running through my head. Thinking back on what Gia said today about Carter needing someone to keep up with him. I know I don’t have any experience in the bedroom and wonder if I will be enough to keep him satisfied. I know I don’t really like the idea of being his mate but the fact is that I agreed to it and I won’t put up with a mate who cheats. I also won’t just be a mate but I will be the face of this pack. I am constantly questioning if I have what it takes to be a good Luna? I hope so. I sigh thinking to myself.

I decide to go out for a run and let Sapphire take control for a little while. Maybe I’ll see if Nick wants to come. I go to his room and see him sitting on his bed scrolling through his phone.

“ Hey what are you up to” I ask leaning against his doorframe. He looks up at me. “ Oh hey! Not much just scrolling the internet. What are you up to?”

“ I was thinking of going for a run. It’s been a little bit since I let Sapphire out. Wanted to see if you wanted to come with”

“ Yeah sure” He says hopping up from the bed. “ Cool let’s go”. We go to our backyard and shift into our wolves. My brothers wolf Samson lets out a yelp and motions for us to follow and he takes off. We run through the woods side by side. Running in my wolf form makes me feel so free. I love feeling the wind glide along my fur as we race past the trees. We stay out there for a couple hours. It’s just what I needed to clear my head and allow myself to just be in the moment not worry about the days ahead.

We get back to our house and decide to sit on the back deck for a little while. “ That was fun thanks for coming with me, Nick. I am going to miss these days”. He looks over at me with concern on his face. “ What do you mean? You ok?” I smile back at him trying to hold in my tears. “ Yeah I’m fine. I just mean soon things will be changing. It won’t always be like this you know. Soon you will become beta and maybe find your mate. Our lives will be changing soon and I’m going to miss this.” I wave my hands toward him and the house. “ Yeah but your my sister I’ll will always make time for you. I’m always here for you no matter how much things change or how crazy our lives get.” I give him a smile. “ I know and I’m always here for you too. I just wish things could stay the same at least for a little longer.”

He gets up and grabs my hand pulling me up from the chair. He gives me a hug. I can feel a tear sliding down my cheek. If only he knew how much I needed this hug. I don’t want to let go. I don’t want to face tomorrow because deep inside I know my life is soon about to change in the worse way.
