A family's Concern

Life continued for the Davis family as they lived in harmony and the love,the bond between the sister's were so strong and unique that they became the envy of many families round the village.

It's evening already and the Davis family all gathered around in the living room, chatting happily when suddenly,Mr Davis started feeling uneasy.

Scarlett please help me get my medicines,my health isn't getting better and neither is my cough subsiding.

Scarlett ran to the cupboard to fetch her father's medicine,here dad she said handing him the bottle of herbal medicine,please take it easy dad,you don't have to stress yourself out by talking,she said gently rubbing his back.

The roots and herbs aren't working anymore,"It's a shame that we don't have any good hospitals in this village of ours, where we could get the best treatment,Mrs Davis lamented.

Mom you don't have to worry about that, because very soon,I would get a wealthy man to be my husband and I would ask him to build a hospital for us in the village.

"There you go again amber,we are talking about Dad's health and you are here day dreaming like always,"please this isn't the time for all this and so we know when your prince charming would come, should we wait till then??

"Sis you need to have faith in me,if not today then tomorrow, and am being serious here sis,if I could just trick a wealthy man into marrying me,them all our problems would be over, don't you think so.

Amber you shouldn't think about tricking someone into marrying you, because marriage is a union of two souls united in love and honesty, "and let me remind you that any thing based on lies never lasts.

"Please sis,spare me all this your lectures,for all I know hard work and being honest hasn't gotten you anywhere so far, and If you don't change this mindset of yours,you might end up marrying a poor broke man and become wrenched for the rest of your life.

"It doesn't matter amber, what I care about is love and honesty nothing else",I don't care about wealth and all the luxury which you dream of,it doesn't matter to me.

"Ohh really sis, but let me remind you that love doesn't pay the bills and I don't understand why you like being poor,amber asked.

"Well you need to grow up for you to understand,she was cut off by her mother,who was listening to their argument, suddenly spoke up.

Enough you two, enough with all this your argument, your father is sick and doesn't need all this stress, Scarlett you are the sensible one I didn't expect you to engage in such baseless arguments with your sister.

"Am so sorry mom,it wouldn't happen again, Scarlett apologized.and for you amber this life does not always revolves around money and am so disappointed with the way you spoke to your elder sister earlier.

"Am so sorry mom,it won't happen again, am so sorry sis for speaking out of tone.

"It's all good, now we have to figure out, what to do regarding your father's health.

"Am fine dear,I don't like seeing you all so upset and it's all because of me,he said coughing out blood.

"Easy dad,this is getting worse and you are even coughing out blood, we have to take you to the hospital in the city tomorrow morning.

"But sis we don't have enough money to take dad to the hospital,we have exhausted all his salaries on root and herbs.

"You don't have to worry about anything,I have saved up some money, I believe that should be enough to cover for all his medical expenses.

I also have some money,from the vegetables which I sold earlier today at the market.

"Ohh thank goodness, the money has been arranged,now we can now take dad to a proper hospital and get him treated.

"Yes my dear amber, your father Will get the best treatment and it's all thanks to your sister Scarlett,if she hasn't saved any money, what would have been out faith.

"Ohh no I can't let you all do this, we would be wasting a lot of money by going to that modern hospital,I believe if I continue taking these roots and herbs I will be just fine.

"No dad,I don't care about how much we have to spend on your medicine, even if it means selling this house for your treatment,then we would sell it, you are all that matters to us, what would we do without you in our life, Scarlett said.

"Yes dad Scarlett is right,we will definitely get you treated and you don't have a choice but to go to that hospital for your treatment.

"Ohh yes my tigress,I agree with you all,I will definitely do as you say, before you unleash chaos on me, please have pity on me,Mr Davis said making everyone to burst out laughing.

"Come on everyone, come give me a hug,Mr Davis said spreading out his hand as they all rushed in, embracing him so tightly.

"I love you all so much",we love you too dad they all chorused together.

Alright let's eat it's getting late and the food is also growing cold, Scarlett please come set the table let's eat. Alright mom, she said moving to the set the tables.

The following day.

Scarlett's POV.

As the sun rose Scarlett's old phone buzzed with alarm,the sun pecking through her window, accompanied with birds chirping outside of her window,she smiled feeling so refreshed.

She quickly went to the kitchen to make breakfast,after she was done,she went over to her parents room to call them.

Everything is all set for their journey later today,I have packed enough home cooked lunch for mom and Dad,I would have loved to accompany them, but because of my teaching job I can't go with them and I can't ask amber to go with them, because she is so impossible,she might run off to find her prince charming and leave mom and Dad there.

"But it's all good,I believe mom can handle everything at the hospital,she got to their room knocking softly on the door, opening it slowly.

Good morning dad, how are you doing?? I trust you slept well??

Good morning my darling,am fine dear, how about you,did you sleep well??

Yes dad am fine,how is your health??!how do you feel now?? I will be fine dear you don't have to worry about me.

But dad I can't help but worry about you,hello mom good morning, how are you doing??

Am fine Scarlett, hope you slept well?? Yes mom I did and please I need you both to get up from bed and come to the breakfast table, because you both need to eat well for your journey today.

"Yes my dear , but I haven't made breakfast and it's still too early I need to over to the kitchen.,

Relax mom I have got everything covered,I have made breakfast as well as your lunch,so please hurry up let's go, before the food gets cold.

"Awww that's so thoughtful of you dear,am blessed to have you as a daughter,

"It's nothing dad, it's my duty to take care of you and Mom it's no big deal.

"Alright Scarlett we will be there, what about your sister, isn't she up yet??"ohhh no mom,you know how she is,she is still having her beauty sleep, but don't you worry I will go fetch her right away.

I got to Amber's room and met her sleeping peacefully,wake up drama Queen, It's morning already but she turned to the other side of the bed, muttering something in her sleep,I look at her with love in my eyes she is 24 year old but still acts like a child, but I still love her with all her tantrums,she always lits up the room with her jokes.i looked around the room and saw the mess she made.

"Ohhh my world this girl, doesn't know a thing about tidying up her room,I bent down pick up the clothes littered round the room when an idea struck my mind.

"This should be fun, she is the queen of drama, so playing a little drama in her won't hurt.

I got close to her small mattress, looking at my troublesome sister who just laided there looking so beautiful in her sleep,I leaned forward and whispered in her ears.

"Hello beautiful,I am your prince charming and I have come to take you to my place,where you would be treated like a queen.

"Really that's good,I have waited for you all my life, please take me away, she murmured in her sleep.

I chuckled softly, leaned forward and this time I made to shout in her ears, enough of your day dreaming, it's me e Scarlett and not your prince charming,so get up,I yelled in her ears.

"Ahhhh she screamed sitting up right, what is wrong with you Scarlett,why would you play with such a thing and why did you have to wake up so early,you know I was having a dream about my prince charming and you just ruined it, she said throwing her pillow at Scarlett.

"That's was fun,you aren't the only one who knows how to play pranks, and enough of all your drama,drama Queen It's time for breakfast and remember that you have to take mom and dad to the bus station.

"Amber's face turned red with anger,ahhh I wish you were not my elder sister.

I turned as around smiling mischievously at her,am so sorry to disappoint you sweetheart but we are stuck with each other, okay.

"Ahhh just get out of my room,you just ruined my sleep,

"Fine am going but be sure to come soon or I will come back drag you out,so you better hurry,I said walking out of the room.

We had breakfast and I made sure to prepare everything for mom and Dad,as they set of for their journey, we said our goodbyes and I headed off to the local village school where am a teacher.
