The car rolled slowly through the towering black gates, the crunch of gravel under the tires echoing faintly in the night. I pressed my forehead lightly to the cool glass, watching the lanterns flicker in the garden. They gave the mansion an almost eerie glow, soft light against a house that was far too big for two people.
When the driver stopped, I glanced at Kai. He slouched my shoulder, his blonde hair sprawled over his face as he groaned softly, his forehead still bleeding. Before I could move, the butler opened his side of the door and reached for him.
Kai’s hand lashed out, smacking him away. “I said only Aria can touch me,” he growled, his voice rough but smug, a crooked smile tugging at his lips as his sleepy eyes turned to me.
