Aria's eyes snapped up to mine. “What are you doing?”
I didn’t answer. Instead, I took her hand, gently, letting my fingers wrap around hers. Small. Soft. Warm. She didn’t pull away.
“Let me show you something,” I said, stepping behind her.
She froze as I guided her hand to the scanner. I stood close, just close enough to smell the vanilla in her hair again, to feel the heat radiating off her. I shouldn’t have liked how easily she fit in front of me, like she belonged there.
“Now, press here.” My voice dropped without meaning to.
