The pause was almost too much for Robin to bear. She started to think that Jennie had hung up on her. “Hi, Robin! I’ve been waiting for your call.”
If that was true, Robin reasoned, why hadn’t Jennie called her? “Sorry,” she immediately apologized and hated herself for it. “I’ve been, we’ve been busy.”
“I understand,” Jennie said. “It’s a lot to think about, isn’t it?”
“Umm, yeah. But we’ve decided. We’d love to get together with you two again. If you want.”
“Uh-huh,” Jennie said vaguely. “That sounds nice, but I can’t talk right now.”
“Oh.”
“But we’d like to meet up with you again.”
“That sounds great,” Robin said with a little too much eagerness.
