The shadow return

290 Words
Chapter 2 As Emily watched Mr. Jenkins vanish into thin air, she felt a shiver run down her spine. She had always thought of Ravenswood as a quiet, unassuming town, but now she wasn't so sure. She finished her coffee, her mind racing with questions. Who was Mr. Jenkins, and what did he want with her? And what was going on with the shadows? Emily decided to head to the local library to see if she could dig up any information on Mr. Jenkins or the strange occurrences in Ravenswood. As she walked, she noticed that the shadows seemed to be growing longer and darker, as if they were spreading across the town like a stain. At the library, Emily began to search through old newspapers and town records. She found a few mentions of a man named Silas Jenkins, who had lived in Ravenswood decades ago. But there was something odd about the way he was described - as if he had been a presence in the town, rather than a person. As Emily delved deeper into her research, she began to feel a creeping sense of unease. It was as if she was being watched, and the shadows on the walls seemed to be moving of their own accord. Suddenly, Emily heard a faint whispering in her ear. It was a soft, raspy voice, and it seemed to be saying something over and over again. "Find...the...truth..." Emily spun around, but there was no one there. The whispering stopped, and the shadows seemed to retreat, leaving her feeling shaken and confused. What was going on in Ravenswood? And what did Mr. Jenkins want her to find? Emily knew she had to keep digging, no matter how strange things got.
