Right. Making a difference, one word at a time. She still couldn’t put up a decent shield. It was that last sleep trick on Daniel that had drained her. It was a special talent, being able to send someone who was in pain or distress into a calm and relaxed state or, if they were exhausted enough, right on into a dreamless sleep. But she had overdone it, and she was paying the price today. It was impossible to focus on her article with all the emotional gyrations going on around her: angry business travelers, frazzled parents, oversexed teenagers and hungry babies. She certainly couldn’t affect this many people at once even on her best day. The audiences at her father’s magic shows, where she had honed her talent, were ideal.
