The tents were pitched under the treetops near the lake shore. There were dry branches for a fire nearby, and a good descent into the water. Although the bottom, as I recalled, was clayey and muddy, the water was like a magnet for the weary travelers and turned out to be quite warm, something the girls immediately noticed as they approached.
