the unsealed power

The Crimson Moon camp felt different now. Not confident. Not controlled. Unstable. Because standing in the middle of it was Damien Blackwood—and nothing about him suggested negotiation anymore. Only consequence. Selena Vale stood a few steps away, her wrist still chained, but her breathing steadier now. She could feel it clearly—the tension in the air bending around Damien like gravity had changed. And something inside her responding to it. Quietly. Dangerously. The Crimson Moon leader stepped back slightly, studying Damien with a sharper expression now. “You really came alone,” he said. Damien didn’t answer. His eyes were fixed on Selena. Not checking if she was injured. Not asking if she was okay. Just… watching. Like he was measuring something invisible. Selena frowned. “You’re staring.” A faint pause broke the tension. Then Damien spoke. “Your mark is reacting again.” Selena blinked. Her wrist burned brighter. The silver symbol beneath her skin was no longer faint—it was glowing. The chain around it began to crack. The Crimson Moon wolves shifted instantly. “Hold her!” the leader ordered. Too late. The chain shattered. Selena stumbled back as a surge of energy burst outward from her body. Wind exploded through the clearing. Torches went out. The ground trembled. Even the wolves struggled to stay standing. Selena gasped. “What is happening to me?” Damien moved immediately—but not toward the enemy. Toward her. He caught her before she collapsed. His hand on her shoulder grounded her instantly. “Don’t resist it,” he said firmly. Selena looked up at him, shaken. “I’m not doing anything!” “I know,” he replied. That answer didn’t calm her. It made it worse. Because it meant this wasn’t conscious. It was awakening on its own. The Crimson Moon leader stepped forward again, voice lower now. “It’s beginning,” he said. Damien’s gaze snapped to him. “Step closer,” Damien warned, “and you won’t leave this forest.” The leader ignored him. Instead, he looked at Selena. “The Luna Queen’s power doesn’t belong in one body,” he said. “It splits. It chooses vessels.” Selena’s breathing hitched. “Vessels?” Damien’s grip tightened slightly. The leader continued. “And when both halves are near each other… the seal breaks.” Silence. A heavy, suffocating silence. Selena slowly turned her head toward Damien. “What is he talking about?” Damien didn’t answer immediately. For the first time, hesitation crossed his face. Then— “There is a reason the Luna Queen disappears and returns through history,” he said. Selena’s voice dropped. “Tell me.” Damien’s eyes darkened. “She doesn’t reincarnate.” A pause. “She splits.” The forest felt colder. Selena whispered, “Splits into what?” Damien finally said it. “Light and Shadow.” A sudden pulse exploded from Selena’s mark again—stronger this time. The ground cracked beneath her feet. The Crimson Moon leader smiled faintly. “Light and Shadow cannot exist separately forever,” he said. “They always find each other.” Selena’s voice shook slightly. “And if they do?” Damien looked at her. Really looked at her. Then answered quietly. “Then the Queen returns fully.” A distant roar echoed through the forest. Not from Crimson Moon wolves. Not from Blackwood territory. Something older. Something waking. Selena stepped back from Damien slightly, breathing uneven. “So what am I?” she asked. Damien’s answer came slower this time. “You are one half of a throne that hasn’t existed for centuries.” A beat. “And I think…” his voice lowered, “…you were never meant to stay just an assistant.” The forest around them began to tremble again. But this time, it wasn’t fear. It was recognition.
