Chapter 14

1274 Words
Herdon and Cassandra were already at Mr. and Mrs. Lopez's house. They spent hours talking to each other until Mrs. Lopez told them to get some rest before they go home. The two agreed because it was already raining at that time. They stayed in the room they're using before. Cassandra was standing near the window when Herdon told her that he will need to get something at their house. "What?" Cassandra reacted. "Yes..." Herdon smiled a bit. "But we are going home any time today... What's the sense of you going back there then going back here again then going home with me," Cassandra said in curiosity. Herdon scratched the back of his head while smiling hesitantly, "Well, it's still raining and I think I left my cellphone outside. In the garden, when I was having coffee there this morning before waking you up," he explained. But Cassandra was still confused, "So, let's just go home," she moved to pack her things. "Wait, hon... I'm sorry but it might be late to tell you," he seems uneasy, but still managed to explain, "I am thinking of staying here tonight only. It's just that I want you to relax after what happened last night." Cassandra walked to their bed and sat there putting her hands on her lap, "Did you just come up with that idea or it was your plan from the beginning? Before you wake me up," she asked nicely. "It's just now... After having a conversation with your parents, I saw how you react. You were very happy and relaxed. I felt guilty for asking you to move into our house after what happened to you last night. I know you won't talk about it but I'm worried. So, I just thought maybe we can stay here tonight and when you feel like you don't want to live in our house anymore, I'll respect that," he took a deep breath after explaining. He didn't want his suggestion but he wanted Cassandra to be happy. "Hon..." Cassandra felt Herdon's sincerity. But she wants their life to gets back to normal, just like before. So she said what she needs to say, "I am going home with you." Herdon's smile widens even more, "Okay," he sat beside Cassandra then he held her hand, "but you're not going home with me tonight." "Of course I understand. You'll just get your cellphone," Cassandra leaned her head on his shoulder. "I'll be quick," he left a kiss on her forehead before going out of the room. Cassandra lied down as soon as Herdon left. Then she fell asleep unknowingly. And as she woke up, Herdon was already there beside her, snoring. ************* A man's shadow was standing in the dark. He was talking to someone. "Boss said we need to get rid of him, A.S.A.P," says the guy wearing a black polo with a red necktie. "I can't do that right now," the taller guy said. "Why is that?" asks the guy with a necktie. "Because I think I'm on a watch. And if I move suspiciously, I'm dead before I could lay a finger on him," the taller guy replied. "So what are you planning? Remember that he can still put you in danger. So if you don't do anything about it, you are dead still trying to save your ass," the necktie man warning him. "Give me a week. I will fix this," the taller guy answered. "There's just one thing I'm curious about..." the necktie man walked around the taller guy, "why is he not talking about you?" then he stopped, looking at him, "Is there anything you want to share with us?" "I don't have time for this. But to answer you, I don't know. But I am thinking that he's onto something. So tell the boss to be careful all the time. Because honestly speaking, I think he will come to us because of what we did to him," the taller guy walked away after those words. He loosens his necktie and took out his cellphone from his pocket, "Hello. I don't think he has something to do about what's happening. If it's not him, then it's the other one," then he left there too. *************** Herdon and Cassandra went home the next morning. Herdon was very happy because Cassandra told him that she will be fine now. "Oh, good," Cassandra exhales before closing the mini-cabinet. "Why?" Herdon showed up in the kitchen where Cassandra was. "We forgot to tell Fatima to buy groceries before she left this morning," Cassandra ranted. "I'll go," he said. "We'll go," smiled Cassandra. "Oh, no, it's okay. Just stay here. We just got from your parents, and I think you should rest. I can do the grocery," he insisted. Cassandra agreed in the end since Herdon won't give up insisting on himself. Herdon took three hours at the grocery store. Aside from choosing what to buy, he got stuck on the line because only one cashier is on duty. When he got out of the grocery store, he hurriedly put the groceries in the car. But when he was about to drive the car, a gun was pointed at his face. "Get down," the guy demanded. "No, please let's talk," Herdon worriedly said. "I said get down or I'll blow your face right here, right now," the guy has a powerful voice that made Herdon get out of his car. The guy dragged Herdon into another car. Herdon was looking around hoping that help will come, but he's not lucky. Meanwhile, Cassandra was inside their room, reading a book. She looked around and trying to determine if she still feels strange about their house, especially in their room. A smile plastered on her face realizing that she just might acting weird after the accident. In her mind, it was just her that scared herself. She continues reading the book but a minute later, her cellphone rings. The word hon appeared on the screen so she knew it was Herdon. "Hey, what took you so long? Guess what, I'm really hungry right now. And if you don't get in here right away, I might eat you," she giggled after saying those. Trying to make her voice sexy. "Is that for your husband?" Cassandra's smile fades away. It's not her husband's voice, "Who the hell are you?" she nervously asked. "I'm sorry Mrs. Facundo but I can't tell you. You can just ask your husband if he gets home," the voice was threatening. "Please, don't hurt him," Cassandra got out of the bed. "It depends on you. So if you want your husband to go home, you need to follow our instructions. And may I just remind you, don't call help, no police." "Listen, my husband and I were expecting you since last week. We already agreed to give you what you want. So please, do not hurt my husband," Cassandra cries. "Oh, really? I think we were misinformed, huh? But I like what you said. That means we have a deal, now," Cassandra heard a soft chuckle from the caller. "Y-yes, we have a deal... Don't hurt my husband, o-okay? Just tell me how much money do you want," she was breathing heavily, fearing for her husband's life. "I will call you again for the address. And again, do not call the police. Don't put your husband in danger." "W-wait! Just tell me now where to meet—" but the call was ended already. Cassandra has nothing to do but cry. She was holding the phone tightly as if her husband's life depends on it.
