Cassandra saw a white ceiling as soon as she opened her eyes. She was staring on it for a while before she remembered everything. She was about to move but a familiar touch and voice stopped her.
"Please, don't move yet," exlaimed Mrs. Elaine Lopez, Cassandra's mother.
Cassandra's head was bandaged. Her face was wounded. There were bruises also on her arms and legs.
"W-where is Herdon?" she asked worriedly. She remembered hearing a gunshot after they bumped into another car. She didn't want to entertain negative thoughts but she wanted to know where her husband is.
"Don't you ever mention that bastard!" her dad burst.
Cassandra frowned. She wanted to get angry at them. They had an accident, but still her parents were concerned about their ill-feeling toward her husband.
"You guys can leave me now before I forgot that you are my parents. I'll just talk to the doctors and ask about the condition of my husband," Cassandra said as she tries to be calm in front of her parents.
"That's the point! Your husband is nowhere to be found while you are in that condition!" shouted her dad.
She was shocked. What are her parents talking about? Until she heard someone clearing his throat.
"Your husband is the primary suspect in the accident," said a hunky voice.
When Cassandra turned to the owner of the voice, she saw a tall, dark, and handsome guy standing near the window. The guy was wearing a black leather jacket and white shirt under it. His pants were also black and so his shoes.
"Who are you?" she asked furiously.
The guy walked towards her and quickly showed his badge, "I'm Inspector Clay De Guzman. I am assigned to your case."
"Huh? What case are you talking about? My husband and I had an accident. What are you trying to say?" Cassandra was starting to freak out.
"Well, Mrs. Facundo, your husband has been gone missing after the accident. It is only you who was left in the car when we arrived there," Inspector Clay said.
"Then what are you doing? You were supposed to find him, right? Why don't you look for him? He's missing so it means he's in danger, right? What are you doing!" Cassandra already freaked out so her mother quickly approached her.
"Cassandra, please, listen first. Just this time, please listen to us," her mother hugged her while saying those words in a sweet voice, trying to calm her.
Cassandra started crying while still in her mom's arms. All she's thinking about is Herdon. She's really worried about her husband.
"Mrs. Facundo, you almost died there. You weren't wearing your seatbelt that's why your face hit the windshield. It was planned, not an accident," explained Inspector Clay.
"N-no... I fastened my seatbelt before we —" Cassandra did not continue.
"See? You had seatbelt but when the accident happened, you weren't," explained Inspector Clay.
"No! M-maybe I t-thought I put on my seatbelt. I-I was sleepy that night, I can't exactly remember everything," she stutteringly to defended her husband from their speculations.
Inspector Clay smirked again, "Do not defend your husband, Mrs. Facundo."
"I-I heard a gunshot..." murmured Cassandra.
"Pardon, Mrs. Facundo?" Inspector Clay said.
"Y-yes! I'm sure about it, I heard a gunshot! My husband is in danger, maybe some guys kidnapped him!" Cassandra replied histerically.
Inspector Clay saw Cassandra's parents shooked their head. Clay can clearly see that Cassandra is really in love with her husband because she cannot see things the other way around.
"There was blood in your husband's seat. We will be able to know if it's your husband's blood when the result is out. For now, we'll let you rest. We will be back tomorrow for another questioning," Inspector Clay said as he edged towards the door. He also bid goodbye to Cassandra's parents.
Mrs. Lopez helped Cassandra lie down on her bed again. Cassandra was still whimpering. She was scared that something happened to Herdon. She didn't believe whatever her parents and the Inspector said. For her, they were only speculations. She hoped that her husband would eventually show up alive.
Meanwhile, as Inspector Clay stepped out of the hospital, he pulled his mini notebook from his pocket. He wrote something and put it back again in his pocket. Then he looked above the hospital and stared at the fourth floor where Cassandra was. He was still in the same position when his phone rang.
"Hello," he answered, "Okay. Wait for me there," he said before pressing the end button.
He jumped into his BMW car and started the engine quickly. He was about to meet his partner, Yuno. They will meet at the house of Mrs. Lourdes Facundo, Herdon's mother. Yuno called to tell him that Herdon's mother already showed up. This morning Inspector Clay and Yuno were at Mrs. Facundo's residence but she was not there. They were suspecting that Herdon contacted Mrs. Lourdes after the accident. According to the neighbors, Mrs. Facundo went out at exactly one o'clock in the morning. Mrs. Lourdes was living alone, in a small house she was renting. Her neighbors were having a drinking spree when they saw Mrs. Facundo went out and left.
In less than thirty minutes, Clay arrived at Mrs. Facundo's house. As he stepped out of the car, he could hear Mrs. Facundo arguing with Yuno.
"Why are you questioning me? Do you think I'm hiding my son!" Mrs. Lourdes yelled.
Clay cleared his throat as he approached them just to get their attention.
"And who are you again?" Mrs. Lourdes raised her brow.
Just like what he used to do, he showed his badge to Mrs. Facundo before speaking, "Inspector Clay De Guzman, at your service ma'am."
Mrs. Facundo smirked.
"Won't you let us come inside your house? Your neighbors are starting to get intrigued about you," Clay said teasingly.
Mrs. Lourdes let them come inside her house.
"Now, let's make it fast. When did you last talk to your son?" Clay started questioning Mrs. Facundo.
