Cassandra has just come out of the bathroom with Herdon helping her. It's just seven in the evening but they're already in the room. It was because Cassandra is still avoiding her parents.
"Are we going to sleep this early?" Herdon asked while looking at his wife's body. She was naked in front of him.
"I just don't want to talk to them right now. I want you to avoid them because they'll just keep on accusing you," Cassandra said while helping herself to sit in her wheelchair.
"Don't force yourself. Let me help you, I'm here," said Herdon.
Cassandra tried to smile, "I don't want to be a burden to you. You've already suffered enough..." then she cupped Herdon's face. Her gaze was showing affection.
"Come on, don't say that. You know that I love you, Cassandra... you don't have to worry. It is my duty as your husband," Herdon said as he stroke his fingers to her naked body. He didn't bother if his index and middle finger are gone.
"Dress me now," Cassandra said while pouting her lips.
Herdon stared at her wondering.
"Let's just sleep so I can forget that you called me by my first name. I'll just let it pass since you said you love me," Cassandra smiled teasingly. She's just joking.
"Oh... I'm sorry, maybe I'm just still in shock right now," Herdon look away, "I'll help you dress up now," he said while helping Cassandra walk to their bed so he can get her clothes.
"H-hey, I was just joking. I'm not mad about calling me by my first name. It's not a big deal to me," Cassandra got worried thinking that Herdon got disappointed in himself.
But Herdon just continued getting her clothes and without any words, he dresses her up. After that, Herdon lies down on their bed and closes his eyes. Cassandra shook her head. She did not want to let her husband feel that way. All she needs now is to understand her husband...
**********
Cassandra woke up the next day still thinking about what happened last night. When she turned to their bed, Herdon was not there. She looked around the room but there's no sign of Herdon. She slowly reached the wheelchair and sit there as fast as she can. When she's about to roll it, the door opened and Herdon was smiling at her.
"I was just about to wake you up," Herdon said as he approached her.
"What time is it? I slept too long," Cassandra answered as she was observing if Herdon is still mad.
"But that's okay. Given your situation, it's okay for you to rest. And you're wrong, it's still early," smiled Herdon then he kneeled in front of her. He holds Cassandra's hand, "about last night, I'm sorry..."
"N-no... I should be the one to say sorry," Cassandra said then she immediately kissed Herdon on his forehead.
"I am so lucky to have you..." Herdon whispered that made Cassandra smile.
"Did mom and dad talked to you while I was still sleeping?" Cassandra asked a bit bothered when she remembered Herdon went outside while she was still sleeping.
"Don't worry about that, okay? I can deal with them and I promise you that I can win their trust," Herdon said as he stands up. He went to the back of Cassandra and started pushing the wheelchair, "let's go take a walk. It's only eight o'clock and it's good exercise for us."
Cassandra nodded, "Okay... I hope the following days I will be able to walk outside without this wheelchair," she said with great expectation.
Herdon pressed Cassandra's shoulder giving her comfort. Then they went outside but they were surprised to see Inspector Clay.
"Mom, what's this?" Cassandra said to Mrs. Elaine angrily.
"Cassandra, we don't have anything to do about this. Inspector Clay just showed up, don't throw it to your mom," Mr. Ray explained.
"It's true, Cassandra. I—"
"Do not call me by my first name, Inspector. We're not friends," Cassandra said emphatically.
"Hon..." Herdon tried to calm her down, "maybe Inspector Clay has something important to say about," he said before approaching the Inspector.
"I just came to tell you that we need you again because there are some things we need to know," Clay said to Herdon.
"When will you stop this nonsense? We're still recovering and yet you keep on suspecting my husband?" if only Cassandra could stand in her wheelchair, she already did it.
"I'm sorry, Ma'am Cassandra, but I'm afraid that you don't understand us," Clay said addressing Cassandra as ma'am.
"Cassandra, just let the Inspector do his job. If Herdon said that someone abducted him, then it means that what happened to both of you is not an accident. That's why they need you to cooperate. Who knows, you and your husband's life is in danger," Mrs. Elaine tried to convince her daughter. Even if she knows that Cassandra is pissed, she wanted Inspector Clay to continue the investigation. Moreover, she wanted the Inspector to observe Herdon.
"I don't want to hear about those speculations," Cassandra looked away avoiding her mom's stare.
"It's not speculations, ma'am. Your husband was kidnapped or abducted for a week. That's why we considered the said accident, not an accident, if you know what I mean, ma'am," Inspector Clay looked to Cassandra. He also sighed because he pities Mrs. Elaine on how Cassandra treats her.
"Is it today, Inspector? Can you just let me and my wife go around for a while? We are very stressed, we need some time to freshen up ourselves," Herdon said to Inspector Clay. He's asking if Inspector Clay could spare them some little time before anything else.
"If that's the case, sir, I'm afraid I need to accompany you both. So I can make sure that you will come with me this day to answer other questions about that night," Inspector Clay grinned.
Herdon grip his hands. Then he sighed. He's trying to control his bad emotion towards Inspector Clay.
"Oh, why not," chuckled Herdon.
"What?" Cassandra almost freaked out when Herdon allowed Inspector Clay to accompany them.
"I'm really sorry about this, ma'am," Inspector Clay apologized to Cassandra. He knows that Cassandra was really pissed at him. But he can't do anything about it because it's his job.
"Your attire doesn't fit being with us walking around," Herdon said softly before he moved to Cassandra, "let's go."
"You know what, I think I don't feel like going around anymore. Just bring me back inside then you come with Inspector Clay," Cassandra stopped Herdon from pushing her wheelchair.
Inspector Clay feels sorry about Cassandra. He just looked at them while Herdon is pushing Cassandra back inside their house.
"I'm really sorry about our daughter, Inspector," Mr. Ray said to Inspector Clay.
"We know that she's just trying to convince herself that Herdon has nothing to do about the accident. Especially that Herdon was hurt," Mrs. Elaine said sadly.
"I wish your daughter is right about her husband..." Inspector Clay stated.
"We are hoping too, Inspector. But please, do everything to know what is really happening or what happened that night. If Herdon is behind this, our daughter is in danger. But if not, we will be relieved," said Mrs. Elaine.
"Let me ask you, Mrs. Elaine... Why are you thinking that maybe Herdon is behind this?" Inspector Clay asked in a low voice.
Mrs. Elaine was afraid to answer but she did give Inspector Clay her thoughts, "Herdon is a drug addict before... We're thinking that he may have enemies or debt, something like that. I-I just don't know what to think anymore," she tried to control her emotion especially when she saw Herdon coming.
"Let's go, Inspector... I hope this will be quick because my wife is stressed now and I'm afraid that she'll have a breakdown anytime," he said sadly.
Inspector Clay did not utter any more words. He just turned his back and Herdon followed him. He's also thinking about Cassandra...
