Tortuga Island, Haiti 1662 "Blimey!", shouted William Bancroft, "That were bein close!" He splashed through the surf to the waiting rowboat. "Aye, we almost di'nae make it!" groaned Vance Wade as he hoisted himself over the side of the rowboat and grabbed an oar. The small pirate crew quickly rowed the distance to Bancroft's ship, the Blood Jewel. Just as they'd reached the ship and began climbing up the rope ladder a fierce explosion rocked the island. "Weigh the anchor and hoist the mizzen!", Bancroft barked to his men as he stepped aboard his ship. Pirates started rushing to follow captain's orders. English aristocracy and the most feared pirate in the Caribbean, William Bancroft was well respected among his motley crew. He looked across the ship and locked eyes with Wade, his quartermaster and oldest friend. They knew The Buccaneers of the Coast would come for them. William reached into his trouser pocket and felt the cold metal of the amulet, only it wasn't cold. The golden necklace was pulsating with heat in William's hand. As he looked out over the island that was still being rocked with small explosions and fires he knew he'd been cursed. He'd stolen the amulet from Angeline Lourdes, the only woman he would ever love. He'd betrayed her trust and taken a sacred treasure she'd been entrusted to guard. He knew her power, and he only hoped the curse would end with him.
