Freya's Pov
I stayed away from the big house all morning. I did not want to see him.
I helped Evie with crayons and glue. I pulled weeds with the little pups. They laughed a lot. I even folded clothes. I hate folding clothes.
I just did not want to see Dane.
But Catherine found me in the laundry room. She had a plate with a napkin on top. It smelled like warm bread.
“Freya, honey?” she said. “Dane is in his office. He will not come out. He will not eat. Take this to him? He will eat if it is from you.”
My tummy felt funny. “He does not want...”
“I tried three times,” Catherine said. “Please? He looks so tired.”
I could not say no to her. I took the plate.
“Thank you,” she said with a big smile.
I walked slow to the big house. The plate felt heavy. My heart went boom-boom.
