I stood outside dane’s office with my hand up, ready to knock, but my heart was banging so loud i could hear it in my ears.
this was it. time to be real. time to fix the mess i made. time to stop being scared.
i knocked.
“come in.”
his voice sounded tired, worn out. it made the guilt in my stomach even heavier. i did that to him.
i opened the door.
dane was sitting at his desk, papers all over the place, but he wasn’t really looking at them. he looked lost. when he saw me, something lit up in his eyes for a second, then he hid it behind a blank face.
