51. The day I longed for and dreaded most

Richard

The day I longed for a lot but dreaded even more came. I went to Lea’s room to meet her there and walk her to the bigger room where the most wonderful and the most terrible things would soon happen simultaneously. I took her small frame in my arms, before she could say any word.

But now, Lea’s light shone into the darkness and gave me a reason to live that’s bigger than the reason I would sacrifice my life for. 

Or at least, I hoped so. Sometimes I wasn’t completely sure. 

Now, I had to allow that monster near her, to watch her taking him inside her body, a place where only I should be. A pleasure that should belong to Titan and me only.

“Let’s get over with it.” My voice had the undertone of another growl and I had to make a great effort to don’t start trembling out of rage. 

Wolf and man were consumed by wrath at the look of that monster and at the thought of what was about to happen.

I took a lungful of air and walked further into the room, stopping when I was close to the bed. King Alexus’ eyes were trained on mine. 

“First, we should mark you, Luna.” Richard said, his voice was raw with impatience and rage. All I wanted to do was to soothe him, make Titan and him feel calmer.

“Do you have to bite me to mark me?” I asked, looking between Valentin and Richard. 

“It works differently for Fae people, Sunflower. To solidify the mating bond, we have to exchange some magic with our intended, and we normally do so by exchanging a little amount of blood. As magic runs in the blood.  No bite is required. I could do it, despite everything.

Despite King Alexus. 

Despite my insecurities, anxieties and fears.

“We don’t have to do it. We shouldn’t do it.” Richard's voice had a note of ferocity, Titan was very edgy. I wanted to comfort him, to comfort them both. To comfort myself. 

“We have to, there is no point in delaying it…” I replied as I turn to look at him. 

“Let’s be done with it then.” Richard almost growled, I could feel his chest vibrating. He was right, the longer I wait, the more nervous I would get. 

“Yes.” I muttered. 

Valentin took my hand in his, “I’ll pierce your finger and do the same with mine, then we will join our opened skins, mix our blood and start uniting our souls.” I nodded. “We have to do everything well synchronized.” He added, as he caressed my cheek with the back of his hand.

King Alexus crouched down in front of me, he looked into my eyes. His violet gaze made me feel dizzy, as all the memories came back in a flash and I stopped breathing for a couple of seconds.

I could do it. I had to be brave. I must do it for Richard and Titan, I couldn’t let their darkness grow and endanger their soul, their sanity.

“Count to five and on five, we’ll start.” Richard added and I did as he said.
