I was jolted awake when I heard Kal growling furiously at something. His bark grew angrier. I sat up quickly scared. I looked towards the bedroom door and saw someone there.
“Sh,” I heard Henry say, I pet Kal.
“It’s just daddy,” I told him in a scolding voice.
“I tried to come in quietly, I guess I spooked him in the process. Get some sleep. I came to grab a shower.”
“I’ll try,” I sighed as I plopped my back down on the bed again.
“By the way, you look good in my clothes.”
I felt my cheeks scorching red and buried in my face in his pillows.
“Thanks.”
He laughed and then I heard the bathroom door cloth with some shuffling. I felt Kal lean his head on my thigh again. Just like that I fell back asleep.
When I stirred awake what felt like minutes later, which left little to the imagination, Henry was in the bedroom with a towel wrapped around his waist.
His back was so tight with muscles rippling in places I didn’t know could contain muscle…to be honest I wanted to run my hand down it. Then he turned around, having heard me shuffle. His chest I felt the heat that graced my cheek return once more. I covered my eyes immediately.
“I’m sorry.”
I heard him laugh, “You wouldn’t be the first nor the last person to see me with out a shirt.”
“I’d think however it is rare for them to see you in only a towel.”
“Your right,” he said he shuffled, “Is that better?”
I lowered my hands and looked only to see he’s dropped the towel and all of him was on display. And I mean ALL of him.
I slapped my hands back over my face, but the image was burned forever in my head.
“I just saw your d**k! How is that any better?!”
He laughed heartly at my reaction, “It’s rare to see me in a towel, but legend to see me in the nude. Did you like what you saw?”
I bit my lip refusing to answer even though my mind and body screamed hell yes.
“Alright princess, I’m really dressed this time.”
“No, I fell for it once…”
“I promise.”
“Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice-“
I felt my hands being removed from my face and my eyes were expose to his. He smirked down at me.
“I think we both know the truth to my question.”
I averted my eyes and landed on his clothed chest and I peeked down more to see he was in jeans.
I exhaled a breath I didn’t notice only just now realizing how close we actually were together. He was only a couple inches away from my face, but I could see deep into his eyes. I never noticed the little speck of brown in his one eye.
“I know we’ve only met a couple days ago, but there is something about you that just feels like…”
“Home?” I asked him as I continued to stare into his eyes, which widened a little.
“You feel it to?”
“The day I met you, being around you somehow felt familiar…made me feel safe.”
“Exactly. Same for me, I feel almost bewitched.”
I smiled softly, “I can assure you I have casted no spell.”
“Yet I am hypnotized.”
He was really smooth, his acting had to have helped him in that area.
I let out a laugh, “That was cheesy.”
He flashed me a smile backing away slowly almost like it took a lot of restraint.
“Well, I am somewhat a romantic…”
I laughed again, “If someone took one look at you that would be the last thing they’d think.”
“And why is that?”
“You’re tall, muscular, and almost but not quiet have a resting b***h face.”
“A resting b***h face?”
“Yes,” I giggled before demonstrating it, “A resting b***h face. And when you aren’t smiling it’s quiet intimidating.”
“How does it make you feel?”
I blushed looking down, “To me? It’s not fair. I met you. I honestly think you look like a big teddy bear.”
He let out a laugh this time.
“A teddy bear, huh?”
I looked at him, “Yes.”
“Right…then can a teddy bear do this?”
He leaped on the bed and began to tickle my sides causing me cry out in a fit of laughter.
“Yes!” I exclaimed through laughter.
“Say I’m not a teddy bear and I’ll stop.”
“Never!”
He continued to tickle me and tears began to fall down my face.
“Say it!”
“Okay, Okay! Your not a teddy bear!”
He instantly stopped and smirked in victory. I laughed still having the after giggles.
“You’re a unicorn, that pukes rainbows.”
“That’s it!” he instantly began tickling me again.
“No! Mercy!” I laughed out, I heard his laughter through my own fit and soon enough he did stop.
“Apologize.”
I smirked up at him wiping my face, “No.”
He leaned closer smirking, “Apologize.”
“Never,” I whispered out realizing how close he’s gotten until we were back in the same position as earlier where he was only a few inches away. I glanced down at his lips licking my own. His eyes darted down towards the movement and the tension in the room became thick.
“You do things to me…things that make it very challenging to control myself.”
“Have you ever heard the song Let it Go-“
Before I could finish my ramble his lips pressed against mine. I felt every fiber in my being ignite. Like a furnace that was low for so long that it finally was ragging in side me, warming my entire being. I pulled him closer as lips melted against each other.
“Oh s**t!” I heard behind him. We broke apart and saw the same man that was talking to Henry earlier. I couldn’t help the glare that landed on him. It made him wiggle on the spot. He was reason number two for everything that happened to me.
“I came to tell you there are a few candidates for Diesel-“
“Candidates?” I asked confused.
“Yeah, they have the photo of him, but they didn’t want to return the wrong cat. They are all waiting for you to see them. I even looked at them myself and it was a pretty tough call.”
I felt my eyes water. He could be okay. He should be okay.
“Where do I go?”
“We go. Where do we go?” Henry corrected me as he stood up. He helped me to my feet from the bed. I felt him wrap an arm around me.
“It’s a twenty-minute drive from here the shelter. That’s if you leave now before traffic makes it an hour.”
I looked at Henry and he nodded, “Tell James to get the car ready.”
“Right on it,” the man pulled out his phone he paused and looked at me, “I’m sorry for what I did. I’m looking for the best place I can to put you within your means.”
Within my means. I could afford my last apartment and then some, but right now I didn’t have a cent to my name. I haven’t even received a paycheck yet.
I only nodded my head at him and he rushed out of the trailer. I felt Henry rub my back.
“See this is good, this a good sign. We go there and he could be there.”
“I really hope so. I know he’d be able to survive outside is he had to, but I wouldn’t want him doing it. He’s my…well he’s my furbaby. Just like Kal is your furbaby.”
He smiled nodding, “I understand. If you hadn’t found him-“
“He found me remember. When I said he came up to me I meant it. It was odd.”
We both turned our head and looked at Kal who was rolled over his back on the bed.
“You know you aren’t allowed to be on the bed,” Henry scolded him. I pouted up at Henry.
“He was cuddling me. Like a teddy bear,” I teased, his eyes narrowed playfully at me before sighing.
“Fine, he can get away with it this once, but next time. I’ll be the one cuddling you.”
I giggled at his warning, and patted his cheek softly, “Whatever you say Superman.”
He grinned and caught my hand kissing my palm. I smiled up at him. We grew closer again, but there was a knock on the door.
“That’s probably James. You ready to bring Diesel home?”
Home? I flushed at the thought. Bring him here? I shook my head of my thoughts and smiled at him nodding.
“Yes, please!”
