Damon.
The words had already rushed past my lips before I realized what I'd said. While I was stuck on saying something else, or waiting for her response, I figured It was already too late to take it back.
Her words replayed in my mind.
“Most times, the couples usually have s*x on their wedding night.” She had said. “Are we going to?”
I inhaled, trying to keep a rein on my emotions. We had barely begun and they were already threatening to go haywire. I didn't need this tonight. At all.
I settled on the bed as I waited for her response. I was in nothing but my boxer briefs and she was fully clothed, yet, the round curve of her ass protruding from the back view of her night dress was all it took to send blood rushing to my groin.
Shit, not now.
I would be lying if I said I didn't think about it again. You know, having a rehash of the night of Callum's party. If there was anything good that happened that night, it was the moment Aria and I shared. How her n*****s were a perfect fit in my mouth, how she moaned my name when I slid into her. Her waist was a perfect fit and her ass …
“Did you hear me?” I startled back to the present as Aria's voice cut through my thoughts. “Damon?”
“Yeah?” I blinked, just to realize she no longer had her back to me. She was staring at me, with a look on her face that clearly showed she knew I hadn't heard a word she'd just said. “ I'm sorry, I zoned off. What did you say?”
“I said no.” My face fell at her response, and so did the bulge in my boxer briefs. “I don't think I'm quite ready yet.”
“I see.” I mumbled. I allowed my eyes to roam her face, but I found nothing. Nothing that hinted at the fact that she was probably mocking me or something. “It's fine then.”
I said nothing as I swung my feet over the bed. I'd barely settled in when I realized Aria was still there, standing.
“Aria?” I called. “Don't you want to sleep?”
“I do.” She muttered. “It's just…”
“Just what?” I cut her off. Did she not know how to use a bed? “Is something wrong?”
“I was thinking I could sleep on the couch?” Her gaze darted to the couch and back to my face again. “ I wouldn't want to bother you or anything…”
“No.” I rushed out the word abruptly, too abruptly if you asked me. “You can sleep on the bed, you can take the other side if you want.”
Confusion flickered in her orbs but it didn't last long. Slowly, she walked up to the bed and sat. Without taking my eyes off her, I watched as she picked up a couple of throw pillows on my bed. Only when she started arranging them in a straight line did I realize what she was doing.
She was making some sort of barrier.
The mere thought of it made me chuckle and when I realized she was done, I flipped the switch off, simultaneously switching on the night light.
I laid on my side as I tried to sleep. Usually, all it took was my comfy pillows pressing into my skin, but right now, even with the warm duvet and everything, I couldn't sleep.
Aria's almost silent breathing was more than enough to remind me that I wasn't alone. Was this how it felt to be a married man? I thought marriage was supposed to be filled with laughter and every thing else?
“Aria?” I called out suddenly. “ Are you still up?”
“Yeah.” Her reply came moments later. “What’s up?”
“Outside.” I let out slowly . A part of me already knew it would most likely result into an argument, but I couldn't help not knowing. “ What were you doing outside with Callum?”
Call me crazy but I swear I heard her freeze on her side of the bed. She remained like that for a while, and I let her be.
“Aria.” I sat up. A couple more minutes had passed and she still hadn't answered. “I asked you a question.”
Some ruffling sounds reached my ears and in a matter of seconds, I could make her sitting up on her side of the bed.
“Nothing.” Her voice was quiet, almost silent even. “I wasn't doing anything.”
“Really?” I scoffed bitterly. “Do you really expect me to believe that?”
“Why not?” There was something about the way she answered. Her tone sounded off, and I tried to determine if she was going to switch to being remorseful, or stay put with her defensive shield. She continued. “Do you think something else happened?”
“Yes.” I let out through gritted teeth. An image made it's way to my mind and I pushed it out immediately, not wanting to replay the vile memory. “Yes I do, or else you wouldn't have been standing so close to him.”
“He walked up to me….” The rest of her words trailed hung in her throat as I her cut off.
“And you let him?” My insides were bubbling, but not with happiness or any of those mushy mushy stuff. It was anger. “Why would you let him come close to you?”
“I don't understand. What did you want me to do?” She countered. “He walked up to me to talk….”
“Just like that? And you let him?” I flared up immediately. “Just how could you?”
“He only came up to me to talk….” She rushed out again but I was faster than her.
“The same way he asked you to come see him at the garden?” Pin drop silence followed my question. I waited patiently, for a response but got none. “I should have known.”
“I didn't know he wasn't the one who had sent the message.” She whispered. “I had no idea, or else…”
“Or else what?” I turned to look at her. “ Personally, I don't think it would have made a difference. Or do you?”
“I don't understand.” She looked genuinely confused, almost like she wasn't seeing the wrong in all of this.
“Of course, you wouldn't.” I scoffed. “whenever it comes to Callum, you never understand anything. Am I right?’
“What's that supposed to mean?” I felt her tone rise a bit.
“It means, you're always about Callum.” I yelled. “Callum! Callum! Callum!”
“And so?” I saw something spark in her eyes. “Is that a problem?”
“In case you forgot, you're my wife!” She was really beginning to get on my nerves. “You're my wife and…”
“... I only married you so you could become the alpha!” Aria finished up for me. I stared at her as her nostrils flared, her eyes blazing a fiery red. “Nothing more!”
“Nothing more?” I was on my feet immediately. “Have you forgotten the other clause to this whole thing? You agreed because you wanted to make Callum jealous, right? You wanted to make him see what he was missing out on. So pray tell, how you want that to happen if you're always hovering around him like a fly!”
“You did not just say that!” She was furious, so furious her cheeks were turning a bright red. “ Take that back, Damon!”
“Why? The truth is painful and everyone knows that.” I bit on my words. “ What everyone else knows is that we're married and you're going to be the next Luna.”
My words must have hit straight in the guts cause she kept quiet immediately.
“From here on out.” I continued. “Maybe you'll have to think twice about the position you now hold. If you want to be addressed as my Luna, or the Beta's side piece.”
Without giving her so much as a second glance, I stormed out of the room.
I guess I was the one who needed the fresh air now.
