The Hunter Awakens

The underground chamber trembled. The creature's crimson eyes glowed brighter as ancient chains wrapped around its body rattled against the stone walls. A hooded man knelt before it. "My lord," he whispered. "The Last Veylorn has found the Key." The creature smiled, revealing rows of sharp black teeth. "Then the prophecy has begun." --- Meanwhile, at the New Haven Historical Museum... Elara couldn't take her eyes off Lucien Draven. There was something about him that didn't make sense. His calm smile. His silver eyes. The strange feeling that she had known him long before they had ever met. Professor Bennett interrupted the silence. "Mr. Draven, thank you for preserving this museum." Lucien nodded politely. "History should never be forgotten." As he spoke, his gaze drifted toward a locked door at the end of the hallway. He could feel it. The ancient relic beneath the museum was calling to him. --- The museum closed just after sunset. Employees slowly made their way home, laughing and chatting as they disappeared into the busy streets of New Haven. Elara lingered behind, organizing a few old documents before finally leaving the building. Outside, she found Lucien Draven standing alone beside a black luxury car, his hands tucked into the pockets of his coat as he admired the evening sky. For a moment, she simply watched him. There was something lonely about him. He looked like a man carrying the weight of centuries. Lucien sensed her presence and turned. "Our paths seem to cross quite often, Miss Vane." She smiled shyly. "Maybe the city isn't as big as I thought." A faint smile appeared on Lucien's face. It was small... But genuine. "I hope your work here has been pleasant." "It has," Elara replied. "Though I keep finding mysteries I can't explain. Lucien chuckled softly. "Sometimes... not every mystery needs an answer." Their eyes met. Neither of them spoke. The sounds of the city faded into the background. For the first time in hundreds of years, Lucien felt something he had almost forgotten. Peace. Just then, Cassian's voice echoed through Lucien's earpiece. "Sir... you're not alone." Lucien's expression changed almost instantly. Across the empty street, a tall man wearing a gray coat walked toward him with calm, confident steps. He stopped only a few feet away. "My name is Adrian Vale," he said. "I know who you are," Lucien replied. Adrian's eyes never left Lucien. "So... the stories are true." "I've spent years searching for the Last Veylorn." Lucien remained silent. Adrian glanced toward Elara, who stood several meters away, unaware of the danger surrounding her. "So that's why you've broken your own rules." Lucien's silver eyes narrowed. "Leave her out of this." A small smile crossed Adrian's face. "I wondered why an immortal who spent five centuries hiding suddenly started appearing in public." He looked back at Elara. "Now I understand." Lucien took a slow step forward. "If you've come to fight..." "I haven't," Adrian interrupted. "Not today." The hunter slipped a small, weathered photograph from his coat and handed it to Lucien. It showed a young warrior standing beside a woman beneath a full moon. The warrior looked exactly like Lucien. "I found this in an abandoned monastery," Adrian said quietly. "The records don't describe you as a monster." Lucien stared at the faded photography his expression unreadable. "They describe you as... a protector." For the first time, doubt appeared in Adrian's eyes. "Tell me, Lucien Draven..." "Were you truly the villain of history..." "...or its greatest lie?" Without waiting for an answer, Adrian turned and disappeared into the crowd. Lucien remained standing there, the old photograph trembling slightly in his hand. Elara walked over. "Who was that man?" Lucien looked at her for a long moment before forcing a faint smile. "Someone from a past I wish had stayed buried." As she looked into his silver eyes, Elara realized something she hadn't noticed before. Behind all his wealth... Behind all his mystery... Was a loneliness so deep that it almost broke her heart. And without understanding why... She wanted to be the one who saved him.
