CHAPTER FIVE

I looked down holding my head as I sucked in a sharp breath.. I think I’m going insane. I came to my senses then started walking down to the exit. What’s come over me? I’ve never felt this restless before, maybe it’s the unfinished business I had with my clients, or the sudden incident that just happened. I couldn’t tell. The old man opened the door as I entered my car ignoring the noises from the paparazzi bombarding me with questions. “Thank you”, I said to the driver, my eyes apologizing for the way I spoke to him earlier, then he gave me a small nod before gently closing the door. He returned to the driver's seat, started the engine, and waited for my instructions. “Take me home,” I said, tiredly. The drive ended in what felt like seconds, and before I knew it, we had arrived. I stepped inside my mansion, every inch of me yearning for rest. As I loosened my tie, I untucked my shirt and unbuttoned it until my chest was bare. I stopped at the living room, and pressed a button on the vintage turntable, as smooth jazz began to play piercing through the silence. I stood back to recollect what I told Candy. That woman really had a hold on me. Nevertheless, I needed her. ——- The Sun-ray pierced through the window directly on my face, causing a burning sensation. I walked out of the bedroom, still sleepy, into the bathroom. The cold splash of water on my face made me halfway awake. I grabbed a face towel dabbing my face, my reflection in the mirror looking back at me before I walked out, letting out a loud groan. My stomach growled in protest. On entering the kitchen, I froze. A white chiffon robe moving lightly with the breeze. The delicate fabric hugging onto the figure of a woman I didn’t immediately recognize, but the waviness of her hair looked familiar. She wiggled her waist to the smooth jazz playing in the background as she hummed to the tune, cooking a meal. No one cooks for me. “What the hell?” The words slipped. She turned, for a moment I was caught off guard. Candy. Of all people. “Candy? What are you doing here? How did you get in?” I barked taking a step closer. My voice rising in disbelief. “Are you forgetting about last night?” she shot back, walking closer to me, she had an emotionless expression. I was confused at this point. Her robe slipped open, exposing her large perky breasts in a white laced lingerie. “I always knew you wanted me.” She said as her eyes lustfully scrolled from my head down to my torso. Her hands brushed slightly over my abs, for the first time in a long time, I was tempted. “I see the way you look at me” her eyes were bigger this time. Her lips parting slightly. “Why are you here? I can’t recall inviting you over” I muttered. “Well yeah,” she said, slowly turning back to rest on the counter. “I wanted to see you. To thank you.” “Thank me?” “For everything you’ve done for me, you…you made me who I am now, and I’ve been thinking…” she continued, her eyes devouring into mine. “Spit it out”, I commanded. “I-I accept the contract.” One of my brows hung up in shock, “You’re serious?” She nodded slowly, her eyes searching mine. “Yes, I’ve thought about it. I get so exhausted with work and, and I’m too cautious of the attention it’s giving” I studied her for a moment. She waits for me in silence as I walk up to her, my hand slid to the back of her neck, pressing my fingers in her skin as I leaned in. “Hope you even understand what you’re signing into?” She let out a little. “I do”. Her warm breath mapping my face, as she blinked repeatedly. “Fair enough,” My lips moved against her ear, inhaling her rose scented wavy hair. “Because once you’re mine, there’s no turning back.” We locked our gaze, this time, her cheeks were flushed in embarrassment , then she bites her soft plump lips. Her eyes shut close as I held up her chin slightly, for a moment, I felt the urge to kiss those lips. As I reached in for her lips, I was held back. My phone starts to ring, breaking the moment. Candy pulled away slightly, her eyes opening in surprise. I released her, stepping back as I turned toward the sound. All of a sudden, everything around me became blur. As a sharp pain hit me across my temple as I squeezed my eyes hard, holding my head. I twitched as my eyes popped open, this time I could see clearly, the ringtone still buzzing out beside me on my bed. I reached for my phone, silencing it quickly. What the hell. Wasn’t I just in the kitchen? Sitting up from my bed, I combed my fingers through my hair looking around my room, no sign of her. The warmth of her skin, her curves, the scent of her perfume, all of it was gone. It was just a f*****g dream. The smooth jazz was still lingering, it wasn’t just in my head, but was playing in the background. I sighed in frustration, shaking my head, before grabbing my phone again. “What the hell is wrong with me?” I murmured under my breath. My phone was still buzzing as I picked reluctantly. “Yes?” “Mr. Brown,” my secretary called out. “Good morning.” “We’re waiting. The press is here, and they’re asking lots of questions,” she said, her voice louder than usual as she stepped into a quieter zone. “What questions? I told you to reschedule my meetings to 12,” I said in a low tone, irritation creeping in. “They’ve got pictures of you from last night,” she paused. “The lady you were with—” “What are you saying?” I demanded, cutting her off. “I’m sorry, sir. I think you have to come see for yourself.” What the f**k. I got pissed and hung up, storming toward the bathroom, the shower was the only thing that might calm the chaos in my mind. What could have possibly happened? Being the talk of the town was nothing new, but this? I needed answers. After finishing up and throwing on fresh clothes, the phone was in hand, Candy’s number already being dialed with a sharp swipe. The line rang twice before she picked up. “Mr. Bro—, Jack”, she corrected in a whisper, her voice a little shaky “did you do this?” “I have no idea what you’re talking about. You need to be clearer” “They’re saying horrible things about me,” she said, her words tumbling over each other. “Digging up things from my past, things I thought were buried. I—” Her voice cracked, as she starts sobbing. “You really think I had something to do with that?” There was a pause, just the sound of her trying to steady her breathing. Then she spoke again, softer this time. “No... I don’t know. I’m just…Jack, I can’t think straight.” “Where are you?” I asked. “The park,” she said after a gulp “far away from my home, I couldn’t handle it, I just needed to clear my head” “I’m on my way,” I said without hesitation. “Don’t move.” I hung up, already grabbing my keys. Whatever this mess was, it wasn’t ending like this.
