Mark

“Get your arse out of the bed, and get dressed for work!” My roommate A.K.A the devil's Incarnate shouted in my ears. “Jeez, Ty!” I growled in anger while I tried to bat her annoying hands off me. “Get your arse off the bed, else I will whip your arse!” She threatened in that motherly voice I've come to hate. “Let me sleep for a moment, will you? My back is acting like me, and my eyes are paining me. Don't you think I need to rest for as long as it will take me to regain lost strength?” “If you can talk this much, then, you have the strength to rise from the couch, and get ready for work.” “Work?” This time, I sat up in bed. “What's the time?” I jump down from the bed and rushed towards the bathroom without checking the time on my wristwatch. I hastily had my bath, and rushed out to the room, with my towel the only thing around my waist. “Jeez, Mark. Must you flash that body of yours all the time?” Ty pretended to shield her eyes from my naked chest. “What are you doing in my room? If you don't want to see my naked chest, you have your room, go to it.” I walk to the closet and took out a blue shirt and tailored trousers I got with the last money in my account, and some that I borrowed from Ty. “Why? I love watching you.” She stood up from the chair she was sitting on and walked towards the door. “Breakfast is ready. Be there in three minutes, or else I will eat your share.” She said before she banged the door behind her. With the disturber out of the door, I hurriedly applied my lotion before I proceeded to blow dry my hair. A sharp glance at the time showed me I still have close to an hour to be at the company, or else I will be marked as tardy. With my hair dry, I rub my coconut hair oil on it before I combed through it. I made sure to neatly part it by the side before I decided I was good to go to work. I wore my clothes, tucked them in, and took my phone from the bedside table. I glance around my small room, to make sure I wasn't forgetting a thing before I walked out of the room. Ty and I live in a two-bedroom flat we rented because of how cheap and nearer to the city it was. After our college education, things were a bit difficult for us, but we managed to scale through. And since then, we have been there for each other. We might not have much, but we have been trying to stay above the waters, to avoid getting drowned by the harshness of the world. Getting this job is like a dream come through for us. At least, it means there are better days ahead for us. “You are fast,” Ty smiled brightly as she gave my clothes a once over, “you dress up nicely.” “I will take that as a compliment coming from you,” I sat on the table opposite her, “where is my breakfast?” “You can get it from the kitchen. You don't have a maid employed to serve you.” “Will it kill you to serve me for one?” I roll my eyes at her as I stood from the chair. “If you want a maid, you can look for a nice boyfriend. I'm not a maid, and neither am I your boyfriend.” “You can be one, darling.” I wink at her before I walked to the kitchen, to get my breakfast. ******* I took the bus to the station and only had to board a cab to the office since it wasn't that far for me to board a train. I got to the company a few minutes before I was supposed to arrive, and it made me smile from ear to ear. It's a good thing to be able to be punctual on your first day at the office. “Good morning,” I greeted the gate man when he opened the gate for me after going through a series of identification processes. “Have a nice day,” he called out as I walked towards the office building. Metro plant Company is known for the numerous things it produces, but it's mainly known for the production of female undies. That's the reason we got paired off with the famous fashion industry. And now, the two companies have not only joined in the business, but the fashion industry has been physically joined with them. Both companies share the same building, with their workers being rotated around the year. Getting employed by one, means you get employed by two. So, as a fashion designer, I was employed to be an assistant secretary to the director. “Good morning,” I greeted the security man at the door. He only nodded before he opened the door for me to enter. I thanked him, despite knowing he won't reply. There weren't many workers in the reception area. The few who were around were either going up to their various departments or rushing out to get their early boosts of caffeine. “Good morning,” I smile at the receptionist when I found her looking strangely at me. On the day I came for the interview, there was a different female there. Maybe, she has been sent over to the designers part of the company. “Good morning,” she mirrored my smiles, “are you here to see someone?” She was as polite as the other one who was here on my interview day. “No. I'm starting work, today.” “Wow,” she seemed surprised. “Congratulations. Which department?” “Uhm,” I racked my brain for the name of the department but came up with nothing. And it's not my fault. Not only was I not told what to expect, but I was also only told the post and asked to start work today. And here I am, to start a job I didn't sign up for. However, the green light at the end of the tunnel was this. According to the interviewer, next month, I might get sent to the design unit.
