The restaurant was crowded and noisy with couples eating out, naughty children upturning the ketchup sauce on their clothes and getting scolded by their moms, stewards running about, but they managed to snag a table for two in the back room. Clay ordered at the counter while Sam saved the table. The bar-man got their drinks ready immediately, so Clay carried pots of tea and cups and saucers balanced carefully on a tray as he sifted between tables. Clay found himself at a loss for topics of conversation this evening.
