CHAPTER 5

1247 Words
Just as they got to the door, Mrs. Anderson kicked off with a knock before slightly pushing the double french doors and revealing Elena to another majestic part of the exceptional home. Alice had previously made mention that her patient never left his room most of the time, just in order to avoid people. But, on her arrival, Elena realized it wasn't really a typical bedroom. His place looked like another home that was built inside the mansion. It basically had all the necessary things he would need on a daily basis to live his life. There was no wonder her son was locking himself up comfortably. However, she felt slightly bothered as to where the Andersons were referring to as rooms. Her room at home wasn't half as large as that place. "Come with me doctor," Alice said, walking right past her, and leading her into the massive space that followed. Elena’s eyes searched the room, as that had been the action she had found herself doing the most ever since she arrived on the estate. As she kept walking, she noticed two smaller doors leading into a walk-in closet and a bathroom. The floors were tiled in black marble and the huge bed was covered in black sheets with a little stripe of white that made her assume the colour black was the owner’s favorite colour. At the next turn was a mini living room. Besides, it was a desk that was made from ebony wood and had an enormous monitor sitting on top. A sofa stood in front of it as well as a very large coffee table, which apparently held books. The space was already giving a classy atmosphere, but she was awed the most by the very gigantic television hanging on the wall. The surrounding walls were covered with very artistic paintings. The room truly was impressive, and Elena was not, to say the least, surprised considering the sort of things she had been seeing since her arrival. Regardless of her thorough searching of the house down to the rooms, she still hasn’t found the reason that had brought her to such a place. Recovering her focus, Elena turned to look towards the woman standing by her side and decided to ask of her patient. “Your doctor has arrived, son,” Alice called right before Elena could make her request and she wondered if Alice’s wealth had bought her mind reading. Her thoughts were put on hold when the scent of a cologne that had a mixture of oriental and citrus swamped the atmosphere. Both the mother and doctor instantly turned their heads in the direction the perfume came from to find the source of the scent. As the figure entered the room, Elena's eyebrow shook at the sight of him. She instantly became mad at Google for all the published pictures of him on the internet. Because the appearance she was witnessing in reality was not what she saw and prepared her mind for. The man moved stealthily through the space with confidence, and his presence easily demanded attention. He held such a poise that showed sternness, while he moved with his head held high and filled with purpose. He had a firm line on his lips which made her guess smiles was not in any way made for his face. His scent was the only thing that made her very certain that he was real and not just a figment of an imagination. Brunet strands circulated his hair and his eyes were so dreamy. He had such a tall height that was indeed worthy of admiration and was decked up with broad shoulders narrowed to a thin waist. His face was very handsome, beyond a doubt, but the stare he was giving off made her feel like she was staring at a den of lions. Made aware of her son’s presence, Alice quickly walked towards him. “Shawn, this is Dr. Davis, the one I told you about.” The mother informed her son who was still under Elena’s grimace. He did not spare the doctor a single glance when he proceeded to walk away without any words and disinterestedly took a seat on the sofa. Elena’s eyes followed him, watching how he settled himself comfortably with arms folded. She was left behind completely stunned, trying to get her mind back on the right track after witnessing such a rude display of attitude. Alice cleared her throat to gain her attention, and the doctor finally returned to earth to meet her patient’s mom, who was standing in front of her. “This is exactly what I mean by his condition,” she said, calmly motioning to her son with her hands. “Anyway, I will leave matters for the professional. I shall take my leave now, doctor,” she brightly added, as though she could already foresee her son getting well in the near future. “Yes, please.” Elena agreed without any other further comments, simply nodding her head to recognize her dismissal. The older woman smiled back at her before turning around and exiting the room. As the door closed behind her, the two were left in utter silence. Elena turned her gaze to Shawn again, who seemed keen on ignoring her. His back was facing her, but his body language was enough to tell her that he did not want to have any conversation of any kind with her. How was she going to start an interaction with a guy that was not even interested in talking to his mother? She decided to take the risk anyway, and turned her attention back to the room, briefly taking a scan of the area and preparing herself for whatever was going to come before she walked forward to stand before him. “Good morning, Mr. Anderson,” she greeted, stopping right in front of him so she could speak clearly and loudly enough to be heard. Her greeting echoed in the silent room, and there was no response. Not even a blink. She cleared her throat, hoping at least it would get his attention, but the man remained silent and motionless like a statue. “I am sorry if I have come at a wrong time and disturbed your privacy, but I am your new doctor assigned to handle your medical cases, Elena Dav---” Her words were cut off by a low grunt that erupted from the man’s throat. “How much is your salary?” Shawn cut her off, his tone curt, speaking for the first time. He had the kind of voice that could coagulate blood and make anyone stay very far away from him. Elena blinked in absolute surprise at the question, taken aback by the sudden change in conduct. She couldn’t wrap her head around the relevance of his question and how it mattered to his treatment. “May I know the reason behind your inquiry, sir?” She questioned in return, trying to understand the situation. The man did not respond to her question nor did he expatiate but his gaze remained fixed on the documents spread across the table, as though they were the most fascinating things in his life. When he spoke again, his tone was even colder in comparison to the last moment. “I will give you five hundred thousand dollars right now so you can get lost.” He disclosed, his eyes never shifting from the papers.
