Finally gathering the courage to text, I did.

Violet: Hi bestie

Kiera: Hey, what’s up crazy 🤪?

First of all, I’m not crazy. And second… well, something has been bothering me.

Kiera: Hey, are you okay? Don’t tell me you’re ill again?

Violet: Chill 😅, I’m fine. It’s just… kind of a difficult issue to talk about. And the only person I feel like I can talk to is you.

Kiera: Speak up, you’re scaring me.

Violet: Promise me you won’t judge me, please 🥺

Kiera: I wouldn’t. You know that.

Reading that made me half-smile, lifting my spirits just a little.

Violet: Well, the thing is…

Violet: I think I’m not normal.

Kiera: Is that even news? You’re crazy, so it’s normal not to be normal, dummy.

Kiera: Just speak up. What’s really going on?

Panic resurfaced, my throat tightening. But I had already started… I had to see it through.

Violet: I think I like girls. I don’t feel any attraction toward guys at all. I tried, but it never works. You can testify—every relationship I’ve had was a total failure.

Violet: And honestly… the last time I had a real crush was on a friend back in primary school.

I hesitated. My fingers hovered over the screen.

My heart started racing immediately. I dropped my phone on the table and walked away, doing anything—anything—to avoid picking it up again.
