The sun was shining brightly as Sophia and Alex set out to scout the surrounding area. They had been in the cabin for a few days, and Sophia was starting to feel a sense of unease. They needed to know what was happening outside, whether there were other survivors, and what the situation was like.
As they walked through the forest, Sophia felt a sense of trepidation. She had heard stories of the infected, of their violent behavior and their ability to spread the virus. She glanced at Alex, who was walking beside her, his eyes scanning the surroundings.
They had been walking for about an hour when Sophia saw something moving in the distance. At first, she thought it was an animal, but as they got closer, she realized it was a person. The person was stumbling and staggering, their movements erratic.
Sophia's heart sank as she realized that the person was infected. She had heard stories of the infected, but she had never seen one before. She felt a sense of fear, mixed with a sense of curiosity.
Alex grabbed her arm, holding her back. "Wait," he whispered. "Let's see what happens."
The infected person stumbled closer, their eyes fixed on Sophia and Alex. Sophia could see the vacant look in their eyes, the way their skin was sallow and sweaty.
As the infected person got closer, Sophia could see the telltale signs of the virus. The lesions on their skin, the way their eyes were bloodshot. She felt a sense of revulsion, mixed with a sense of sadness.
The infected person lunged at them, their arms outstretched. Alex pulled Sophia back, holding her safe. "Don't get too close," he warned. "We don't know how the virus is transmitted."
Sophia nodded, her heart racing. She watched as the infected person stumbled and fell, their body crashing to the ground.
Alex pulled her away, leading her back through the forest. "We need to be careful," he said. "We don't know what's safe and what's not."
Sophia nodded, her mind reeling. She had never seen anything like that before. The infected person had been so...human, yet so completely gone.
As they walked back to the cabin, Sophia couldn't shake the feeling of unease. She had seen the infected, and she knew that they were out there, waiting. She felt a sense of fear, mixed with a sense of determination.
They reached the cabin, and Sophia locked the door behind them. She felt a sense of safety, but she knew it was temporary. The infected were out there, and they would keep coming.
Alex turned to her, his eyes serious. "We need to talk about what we saw," he said. "We need to figure out what to do next."
Sophia nodded, her mind racing. She knew that they couldn't stay in the cabin forever. They needed to find a way to survive, to find other survivors and build a new community.
But for now, they were alone, and they had to be careful. The infected were out there, and they would stop at nothing to survive.
As the night fell, Sophia and Alex sat by the fire, watching the flames dance. They talked about their plans, their fears, and their hopes.
Sophia felt a sense of gratitude towards Alex. He was her rock, her partner in this new world. She knew that she could count on him, no matter what.
As they sat there, Sophia realized that she had found something special in Alex. A sense of trust, a sense of companionship. She smiled, feeling a sense of hope.
Maybe, just maybe, they would make it through this after all. Maybe they would find a way to rebuild, to start anew.
The fire crackled and spat, casting shadows on the walls. Sophia and Alex sat in silence, watching the flames, lost in their own thoughts.
But as the night wore on, Sophia heard a noise outside. It was a faint scratching sound, followed by a low moan.
Sophia's heart sank as she realized that the infected had found them. They were outside the cabin, and they wouldn't stop until they got in.
Alex grabbed her arm, his eyes locked on the door. "Get ready," he whispered. "We have to defend ourselves."
Sophia nodded, her heart racing. She knew that their survival depended on it. They would fight to the death, if necessary.
The scratching sound grew louder, the moaning more intense. Sophia felt a sense of fear, mixed with a sense of determination.
They would survive this. They would fight back.
But as they prepared to face the infected, Sophia couldn’t help but wonder..would they be enough..?
