"Is there anything I could send over the telephone this evening?" Ferris inquired.

"Mr. Ferris," he said, "you know the feeling of the town. Why not try to be a little unusual? Instead of working up the panic and barking at the police, try a more decent line. Say something to reassure the public. The ordinary routine inquiries are being made, and an immense amount of work has already been done. See that we are fairly handled. It will pay you better in the end."
