ANISA. I blinked once, twice. Then squeezed my eyes tightly shut and waited. But as the stillness continued to stretch with each passing second, I knew nothing had happened. At least not yet. Maybe I need to wait a little longer first. So, I kept my eyes shut. Waiting. Waiting for a light, or perhaps, a certain flash that would indicate I had left the book and was back in my real world. I waited for any slight sign that would show the rejection had worked, and I had safely returned home. But nothing happened. Only the uncomfortable stillness that scared me. But I refused to pry my eyes open. At least, not until Elian's voice sounded in my ears. "Leave." That was the only word I heard him say. At first, I had assumed he was referring to me. That he was telling me to leave. But as I opened my eyes and found his gaze fixed on me, I knew instantly that he wasn't referring to me. However, the look in his eyes was unlike anything I had ever seen in them ever since meeting him. Gone was the warmness in them, or the adornment they held for me. Gone was the look I was slowly getting used to. In its place, was pure rage. And somehow, I could feel the vibration of it to some extent within me. "Bani..." Imani tried to speak, but he cut her off by thundering so loud. "I said OUT!" An involuntary shiver ran down my spine as I moved back till my back hit the headboard before I stopped, bringing my knees to my chest and wrapping my arms around them before placing my head and shutting my eyes. I didn't want to see the look in his eyes. I didn't want to continue staring at those brown eyes with a tint of gold in them. It was as though the colors in his eyes were fighting for dominance, and I didn't want to watch that. As the loud thud of the door closing settled in the room, I felt the bed dip more towards where I sat. But I didn't dare move. I was afraid that if I moved, the rejection won't work and whatever magic that had brought me here would break. "Look at me," his voice came out in small pants, causing me to inch back a little more, as though the headboard would save me from him. Why was he acting this way? "Anisa, look at me for goodness' sake!" He thundered, hitting his hand on the bed. "St... stop it," I snapped, my voice shaking as I fought back the tears. I don't know why I felt like crying, but there was suddenly a stabbing pain in my heart, a sadness calling out to me. I had changed. Ever since I came here, I cried easily. It was why he treats me this way because I am weak. "You said you believed me," I added, finally looking up. However, the look on his face and his eyes stilled every emotion in me. Gone was my eagerness for this to work so I could leave this book, gone was the fear that had filled my senses just a few minutes ago. Gone was the insanity that this was a book, and I can't stay here. Gone was the hatred I thought I harbored towards this man. In its place was an overwhelming sense of belonging that made me want to cradle Elian's face to my bosom and tell him soothing words. In its place, was the desperate urge to get rid of his sadness. To whisper sweet nothings into his ears and watch him laugh. This was insane! Ever so tentatively, I moved forward, leaving just a small space between us. I had no idea why, but my hand instinctively went up to his cheeks, grazing the soft hair lying there, as I brushed my fingers on it ever so slightly. I heard him gasp before both of his hands grabbed my hand and held it in a tight hold. His breath hitched, causing me to shiver a bit as his hot breath hit my face. "You can't do this to me..." He murmured, his voice raw, and it had an edge to it. "You can't decide you don't want me and reject me just so you can go back home. Anisa, it doesn't work that way. You can't break...you can't...bre...ak...me... more..." His hold on my hand tightened as he sucked in a deep breath. The color in his eyes was still uneven, dancing between brown and fiery red.
