It was half past eight and the Hilton's grand dining room was already filled up with all kinds of palatables and satisfactory dishes. Aviva kept wondering how easy it was for these people to lavish such on just one square meal, when there were thousands of people out there who needed this money direly.
“Aviva darling, eat up okay” Mrs Hilton's warm voice broke into her thoughts and she slowly looked up with a wry smile before picking up her cutleries.
Disdainfully for her, Jace wasn't present at the dining and he hadn't returned from work. She felt a bit blue on the outcome of things, it seemed like Jace was avoiding her and she couldn't comprehend why. Though she didn't wanna judge hastily because it could be an emergency that came up at his workplace, so she decided to ask.
“W…what about Jace?” The softness of her voice made everyone pause and stare up at her, even if the question was asked to no one in particular.
Mr Hilton shook his head slightly and muttered “Incredible”
“Oh don't worry sweetie, Jace is gonna be home late” It was Mrs Hilton who gave her a benign response and Josie scoffed, Jace’s sister.
“Now that explains why you had that lame look” Josie scowled and Mrs Hilton spanked her hand lightly.
“Josie tame that mouth of yours” She warned and Josie pouted at her mom.
“But mom, I'm being sincere” With the roll of her eyeballs Josie proved herself right.
“No one asked for your opinion little…” Mrs Hilton suddenly got cut off
“Thanks for the food, goodnight” Aviva scraped her chair backwards, almost in a hurry and exited the dining room.
“You're grounded, three days straight,” Mr Hilton told his daughter and then left.
Inside Aviva's room, the girl was laying on the bed with her eyes glued to the wall clock, it was a few minutes past nine and yet no sign of Jace.
The day dawned bright and clear with a whole lot of good vibes and positive energy but Aviva was the opposite of it. Liana had woken her up from sleep with a video call, hoping to hear some good news, but the look on her friend's face threw her off completely.
“What you're tryna say is that he didn't return home last night?” Liana's eyes were all wide like saucers and Aviva nodded slowly.
“Bullshit! That's bullshit! Who on earth does that?” Liana seemed pissed off and Aviva shrugged.
“Well Jace Hilton does that” She forced a smile and Liana shutted her eyes tightly before releasing them.
“Don't be sad Viva, you've still got plenty of time to get in touch with him” Liana reassured and Aviva bursted out in laughter.
“Sad? Do I look sad to you? I don't care about Jace, I'm only here for mom” Aviva said without mincing her words, causing Liana to squint her face tightly.
“Viva…viva you're… Jeez…” Liana found it difficult to form a meaningful statement after witnessing Aviva's reaction.
“Jace Hilton is the least of my problems Lia, all I'm worried about is my mom” Aviva's face contorted into seriousness, though a part of what she said was true and the other part was a lie.
“Hey, hey, hey, listen to me…” Liana furrowed her brows at Aviva. “...I'm gonna take good care of mom, meanwhile you focus on your marriage, do you hear me?” Liana said firmly and Aviva nodded.
“Goodbye, gotta prepare for work” Liana said and hung up.
Letting out a frustrated sigh, Aviva fell back on the bed helplessly. She stared at the window as silent questions kept running through her mind. If Jace didn't return home last night, where did he spend the night? Was he okay?
***** Miles away from the Hilton's mansion was where the JaceTech innovation company was located at. A well known company which stood out as the most high ranked company in Oakland.
In the Ceo’s office, Connell sat before Jace with a cup of wine in his right hand, which he slowly sipped from.
“Why did you do that man? Why?” Connell creased his brows at Jace who’s gaze was buried in his desktop.
“Do what? I only spent the night at my place, is there anything wrong with that?” Jace answered with a fixed expression.
“Alissa was there wasn't she?” Connell’s voice raised a peak and Jace paused on his actions but still focused on the desktop.
“Don't you have a company to take care of Connell? Please go there and stop bothering me, you grandad” He replied without looking at Connell. But Connell didn't give up, he knew Jace was a stubborn motherf**ker but he was also talented when it comes to handling him.
“You're not even supposed to be here, do you realize that? You've got pre-wedding photos to take”
It was then Jace stared up at Connell with a cold glare “If my mom sent you, tell her that I can't” Was his short but firm reply.
“Wait, what do you mean you can't?” Connell's eyes flared up in confusion that instant. His friend was really something else, or did Jace forget that pre-wedding photos are always compulsory.
“You personally said this wedding should be aired so what's with this attitude?” Connell continued furiously nevertheless and Jace returned his eyes to his desktop.
“Go figure out something man, I'm not interested” Jace said curtly and Connell gave up.
***** Back in the Hilton's mansion, Josie stood behind Aviva glaring at her. She didn't get why her brother decided to air the wedding. What if it doesn't work out well like the others? What will he say to the public? Josie thought in agony. But deep down within her, she prayed dearly for the contract to work out the way it was planned so that her brother would quit jumping from one lady to another.
Meanwhile, Aviva whose eyes were fixated on the TV -as a male newscaster announced her wedding with Jace- momentarily gaped at the next thing she saw.
