I should have ignored it. That was the first thought I had when the envelope landed on my desk, unmarked except for my name written across it in dark ink that bled slightly into the cream paper. It was heavier than it should have been, the kind of stationery you only saw in expensive shops, the kind that spoke of intention and wealth. My fingers hovered over it for a full minute before I even dared to touch it. I told myself not to open it. I told myself it was probably some strange office prank, a promotional stunt, something that would make me laugh and forget within seconds. But deep down, I already knew it wasn’t.
