Chapter Sixteen
Lucy looked at the letter. It seemed so brief and cold. She knew it was not the type of letter Mr. Koessick had meant for her to write, but Lucy could not bring herself to tell Beau everything. Besides, she was still angry for the way he had sent her away in the first place. She must prove to him and to herself she could survive on her own. With one letter complete, Lucy pulled out another sheet of paper. Vivianne was another matter all together. To her she would write the truth. Even if Vivianne wrote to Beau immediately, the letters would be months apart. No doubt he would be furious with her. Punishment would be severe, but Lucy would do as she pleased and deal with the consequences when they came.
The next day she watched with trepidation as the two letters were taken
