Heading down stairs I was not ready to talk with my dad he was going to flip
shit when I told him that I came clean to Raini. But what more could I have
done. I am not going to just lie to her. Even when this mess is all cleaned up
with the idiots pretending to be my dead parents, she going to have to find out
so I’m just going to make sure we have a truthful start. I had hidden enough
from her. I made it to my dad’s office and knocked on the door. “Come on in
Jake!” I walked in and set down in the guest chairs. I waited for him to finish
whatever paper work he was doing before speaking. It didn’t take him to long.
“Son, how did the drive back go?” Great I thought to myself. He has that all
knowing tone. “Great.” One word response, “So what was wrong with Raini?
Beta Nick said he figured she needed some time before coming in. That was
about two minutes before all the windows burst out of my SUV? I knew this
was coming, ok time to shoot my shot dry and let it burn going down. I had
never lied to my parents I wasn’t gonna start now. “She was actually ok, we
had a conversation which I figured she handled very well actually, and then we
ended up making out, it started to progress, then Nick knocked on the damn
glass divider and it scared her, so she jumped off of me and that caused Neo
to front and growl at him. It is like I said when we got back today. Neo got
possessive and pissed.” He sat quietly every so often moving his head
nodding to himself seeming to be answering his own questions from himself.
“You going to tell me what the conversation was?” Ok Jake rip the band aid
off. “ UM… So, I came completely clean with Raini. She knows who I am, who
you guys are, and that the mate bond has been there for a long time,
apparently, we had both been feeling it but too embarrassed that the other one
wouldn’t reciprocate it so basically longing in silence. As well as what the
dangers are and that I am accepting the mate bond and going to have to play
this marriage off as a contract marriage even though we are fated to each
other. If your angry you can let me, have it. Even if this was not the case, I
would have still told her because either way it goes, she would have been
involved in this. It was inevitable because I was still going to have to mark and
mate you heard that part from the elder yourself. And we both know after that
happened I wouldn’t have been able to be the ‘play boy’ the rumors make me out to be.” Unloading all of that in what felt like one breath I waited for him to
get mad, scream and holler. But nothing happened. I had my eyes scrunched
shut and the more the quiet continued the slower I started to open them. “I am
proud of you.” That was all he said. The f**k, what happened to always saying
I had to hide her, I had to reject her the mate bond this and the mate bond that.
“Daimen,” it was rare he used my real name. “I am proud of you because, one
no matter how much I feared you having to reject the mate bond to keep you
both, you chose to accept it, l only wanted you to reject it, because I knew you
would still have her close when she became your wife, that was before the
Elders added the stipulation of mating and marking. And secondly because
you took control of the situation with your mate and faced it head on. I was
gonna have her join the meeting in a bit and tell her everything my self and
apologize.” Wow, ok so this is a shock I thought dad would be mad. Guess not.
“ I owe you an apology as well.” Man, today was turning out to be a good day. I
get my mate; I don’t have to put on a farce and my dad is gonna apologize.
“Dad, its ok I know why you were being that way, but I mean the plan was
gonna go to hell in a handbasket. Anyone could see that. Besides you know
yourself I love her, everything I have done is for her.” My dad just agreed. “So
now we have to actually talk about why I needed to see you. Those two
morons still don’t have a clue as to me being on to their bullshit just yet, every
time they call for an update, I give them the run around and they haven’t
caught on to it yet. The last details I gave them were of a possible match of
someone in Argentina. Before you say anything, I did not give them any real
details so if they go looking they will go in blind. So, I think that buys us a little
more time.” I didn’t like the fact that he was still entertaining these people but
its like they say keep your friends close but your enemies closer. “Ok dad, is
that all ya got?” “Yea, son for now it is, I just wanted to test you to see if you
done what you thought was right as far as your mate goes, when it is just us
behind closed doors we will speak the truth, but anywhere else you have to
remember, this is a treaty wedding between two best friends, so make it a little
awkward if y’all can, and remember hills have eyes and walls have ears. You
are dismissed I gotta lot more work to finish before I pass you my title in three
days’ time.” With that I stood up and let myself out.
