transfiguration

Last night meg after we couldn't find eren we grabbed supper and went back to our dorms. we spent the evening talking about our last year as she spent it traveling with her parents, then listened to music and just had a dance off.

BEEP....BEEP....BEEP

I groan. the alarm.

"Em its time to get ready for class."

I groan again and lift my head and look at her. meg is already dressed with her makeup smiling at me. "cant you hate mornings like a normal person."

"sorry you wouldn't love me as much if I was normal."

we both laugh and I get out of bed. I check the time quickly and go for a quick shower before putting on my uniform skirt and blouse and applying make up. I put my hair in a pony tail leaving strands down near the sides of my face and grab my book bag. "ok ready."

meg opens the door and we walk out. "we should stop by the dining hall to grab a muffin or something before class."

I nod and follow her out of the common room and down the hall to the dining hall. when we walk in we notice theres still a bunch of students eating we quickly walk to the tables with the food and grab our favorite muffins. when we turn to leave we spot eren sitting down eating.

"eren!" we run over to him smiling.

"oh hey!" he says after shoving his last bite of eggs in his mouth. "are you in transfiguration first thing this morning too?"

we both nod. "come on youll be late if you dont come with us" meg says tapping her foot.

"dont make meg late eren. youll regret it." I say quietly to him.

eren laughs and stands up. "ok lets go."

the three of us rush out of the hall meg and I taking bites of our muffins as we go. we get to the classroom shortly and throw our wrappers out and walk in. meg and I find a desk near the front and eren sits in the desk beside ours.

I pull my books out and wait. I spent all of last year on my own, so it was spent reading erics books. almost memorizing each one from how many times I read them.

professor Woods walks in and everyone quiets down as she pulls her wand out. "welcome everyone to your first year of transfiguration."

I pull my pen out and start drawing a bird in my notebook as she discusses what well be learning this year.

"this year we'll be learning about transfiguration and why and how it'll help you." professor Woods says leaning against her desk. "youll perfect your wand movements before for each spell. youll learn theres spells that can transform objects into something useful to what you need." mrs Woods walks around the classroom as she lists off different spells. when she reaches mine and megs desk and notices my drawing. "miss evans."

meg nudges me and I look up.

"am I boring you?" she says looking down at me and my drawing.

"uh no? I promise im listening, I just already know those spells professor."

professor Woods raises an eyebrow and crosses her arm. "really, well then why dont you demonstrate for the class one?"

I look at meg and eren. meg looks mortified and embarrassed while eren looks thrilled to not be the one in trouble. I sigh and nod pulling out my wand.

I rip the page out of my notebook and lay it on my desk. I position my wand over the page and flick it. "animare" the page quickly transforms into an animated flying above my desk.

professor Woods holds onto her necklace. "grab your things follow me." she walks to the entrance of the class.

I look at meg and eren and whisper sorry before packing my stuff up and following the professor to the entrance of the class.

"class you are to sit here quietly until I return." we walk out of the class and head up the stairs near the entrance of the school.

I follow quietly. ugh I better not be thrown out on my first day.

we make it to the 4th floor of the school and we walk to a door that looks like its made of gold. it has intricate details etched all over it and a gold knocker right on the middle. professor Woods grabs the knocker and knocks 3 times.

"you may enter." an deep older males voice can be heard.

professor Woods opens the door and gestures for me to walk inside.

once inside I look around in the middle of the room is an older man with medium length curly grey hair and a short beard.

professor follows and stops infront of me.

"what is it professor Woods." he says looking from me to her.

"sir I believe this student should be advanced to year to transfiguration. her time would be wasted in the first year class."

my eyes widen as I look between them. oh god im going to stand out. I shouldve just paid attention to her instead of doodling.

the headmasters eyebrows perk up. "really miss woods." he looks from her to me then back to her."

"she just demonstrated a spell that most of my second years would struggle with. I would like to test her and have her advance."

the headmaster stands up and I watch him terrified. he grabs a few items from around the room and places it on his desk. the first one is a still picture of himself. the second a feather and the third a glass of water. he walks back behind his desk and looks from the professor to me. "the exam is simple. transform alter or change these 3 items." he looks back at the professor. "miss evans gets manages 2 of 3-"

I walk over to the picture as hes talking. I point my wand at the picture and flick it in a V motion. "vivere." I watch as the picture starts to move then look at the feather. "I point my wand at the feather and picture a quill in my mind, I quickly flick my wand. "transformare." without looking at the feather i walk to the glass of water i move my wand in a swish movement. "congelo." I back away from the desk and close my eyes not wanting to know how I did or being to scared to. what did I just do.

I hear the headmaster walk around his desk. "well miss woods and miss evans. thats 3. you get your advancement."

I opens my eyes and look. the picture has taken life moving around as if I was watching a movie. the feather turn into a quill and the water froze.

the professor points her wand at my crest on my cloak. I hear her mumble something and look down my crest that showed my first year color green is now 3 quarters green and a quarter blue for second year.

"well then professor you should get back to your class."

professor Woods looks at me. "I will see you in second year class with the rest of the second years next period. that would've been your break for the first years. looks like you get to sleep in this year." she pats my shoulder and walks out leaving me with the headmaster.

I look at the headmaster still a little terrified.

"id ask how you managed to surpass your classmates but I have a feeling I can expect great things from you miss evans." he says walking around his desk and leaning against it.

"I will try not to be much of a nuisance."

"will your potions teacher also be expecting the same."

"I dont think so, my parents wouldn't of appreciated me experimenting with potions sir. I only read the books."

"ah yes the books i suppose you need a year two transfiguration set." he says grabbing a book from his cupboard and holding it out for me to take.

I take the book slowly. "thank you." I fidgeting slightly with a question. "how'd you know who i was? the professor never mentioned it."

"in my old age you just come to know things. Just had a feeling. you also look like your mother who was also exceptionally talented."

I nod and hand him my first year textbook. "I suppose I won't need this, maybe a student who couldnt afford the books could use one."

the professor takes my book and goes to sit back at his desk. "be on your way miss evans. have a good first day."

I smile and nod. "thank you, you too." I walk out of the office. oh my god. i aimlessly walk for a few minutes before finding myself at the doors to the dining hall. 4th years and 2nd years will be in here. I sigh and walk in just wanting to sit somewhere and think. I quietly walk in and find a seat where no one sitting and sit at the table putting my head in my hands.

after awhile I hear a familiar voice. "why the hell arent you in class?"

I look up and see eric staring at me with a plate of food.

I let out a chuckle.

"did you get kicked out of your first class already?" eric says sitting down across from me.

I laugh a little harder. "quite the opposite and somewhat the same I suppose."

eric raises an eyebrow. "mom and dad will kill you."

"I suppose you could say I skipped a grade."

"bullshit em. that doesnt happen."

I giggle and push out my crest on my cloak. "but it did."

eric looks at my crest then at me. "do you know how rare that is. how the hell did you pull that off."

"dont get mad, but you were at school and meg was traveling so I had nothing to do, I went in your room looking for your school books. I found your year one books and I spent the year reading them repeatedly."

"how'd you practice with no wand."

I shrug. "I dont know I just read and learned and then I was able to do it."

Eric leans in and looks at me with a serious face. "em if you can practice magic without a wand you cant tell anyone." he whispers.

I look at him confused.

"its not normal em. bad people will come after you. as far as anyones concerned you just memorized a book and when you got your wand it came naturally ok."

I nod quietly. "ok."

"anyone else know? meg?"

I shake my head. "no eric, just you now."

"keep it that way."

we hear the bell go and both of us stand up. I give eric a side hug and rush out of the dining hall towards transfiguration. ok lets try this again.

I get to the classroom doors and take a deep breath. tom will likely be in here. I sigh and walk in. all the second years are chatting away.

"emily are you lost, this is for second years." tom pipes up chuckling.

I sigh and ignore him. I see a spot open beside a boy walk over and sit down quietly and pull out my book.

"hey names Marcus." he says holding out his hand.

I look at Marcus and smile taking his hand. he has long dark brown hair thats pulled into a low pony tail and an anchor beard thats clean shaved. "Emily."

professor Woods looks up from her desk after jotting things down. "welcome everyone to another year of transfiguration."

the girl thats always hanging off tom raises her hand. "excuse me miss that first year is here."

"shes where she needs to be. miss evans had shown skills passed where a first year should be so it has been decided to pass her into second year transfiguration. now if we can get on with the class.

I look back at tom whose staring at me with a shocked expression then at Marcus whose smiling.

"thats awesome and super rare to be done here." he whispers in my ear.

I smile and nod.

the rest of the class went on as normal, professor Woods explained some advanced spells and wand movements.

"alright class is just about done, so here's the deal. I want essays from each of you on what transfiguration means to each of you, what you look forward to learning in this class this year. class dismissed."

I put my books back in my bag as the class shuffles out and stand up.

"good job not doodling this period miss evens."

I let out a laugh and smile. "I think it learned my lesson, see you tomorrow." I pull my bag over my shoulder and walk out of class. lunch time. eren and meg should be waiting for me.

as I walk down the hall toward the dining hall I see tom leaning against the wall. I sigh and go to walk passed but he grabs my arm. I yank it back and look at him.

"what?"

"how the hell did you skip first year."

"I dont think thats any of your business anymore tom."

"how many times do I have to apologize." tom says getting closer to me.

I stand my ground. "none. I dont want an apology from you. I dont want anything from you anymore."

Marcus walks up to us. "hey em wanna catch a bite together?"

I look from tom to Marcus and smile. "sure I was heading in to find my friends want to join us?"

"sure lead the way." Marcus says smiling.

"this conversations not over em!" tom says as I start to walk away from him.

I look back at him as im walking. "this conversation was over after the first 30 unanswered texts and calls last year tom."

Marcus opens the door for me and we walk into the dining hall. "looked like you needed saving but apparently not."

"I look at him and laugh. "no you did save me thank you."

"em!" meg rushes over to us. "eren and I have been waiting."

"let Marcus and I get food then we'll talk."

Marcus and I grab our food and walk over to the table where I fill in meg and eren on everything that happened.

the rest of the day went pretty uneventful. potions was spent learning about the usefulness of them and the potions that will not be taught because theyre forbidden.
