Ellie
As I walk to work, I look around to see my surroundings. Iv always lived here, my whole life. I was left in a box placed on the door step of an orphanage in the dull city of Pennsylvania whether I am originally from here I do not know. Life was hard for people like us. I consider myself lucky though I have that fight in me, not to give up. I see and hear the waves crashing against the rocks, but its all I can hear its so silent at night. I work in the club just a few miles from the orphanage, I needed work in my spear time, to save for a car. Just to make me feel that bit more free.
I am a part time college student learning the arts of music and dance, I love to sing like so many others that live in this city. But a brake for someone like me is near impossible, we don't get given many chances due to not been important enough. But I won't lose hope, I refuse to allow it.
A voice takes me out my thoughts. "Ellie Ellie Ellie". I see Jenny running towards me, Her dark brown hair is all over the place, she has flushed cheeks, it looks like she had been running for a while. I had to let out a giggle, I think she heard as she starts to slows down. She is one of them girls that can light a room up as soon as she enters, she has such a lovely smile that could make you warm even on a cold day and that's regular as we live in a cold dark city. But that's why I love her, that's why she is my best friend and that we spend almost everyday together.
"Jenny what the hell are you doing here? Its your night off remember," "and why are you running towards me like you can smell freshly baked doughnuts in my bag?" "Oh give over Ellie, your making me hungry" she lets out a little laugh before she proceeds to tell me why she looks so flustered. "
Jake is at the club tonight Ellie," she lets out a happy squeal while jumping up and down in the air!! she looks so silly but she hasn't a care in the world. Jake is he crush. Not like he even knows who she is, she has never spoken to him. She literally just eyes him from downstairs of the club all night!! Like a crazy stalker, he works for the elite so iv heard of Jenny. I don't know much about the elite just that they are extremely powerful men and women and they take advantage of that. The stories iv heard not just from jenny but the media too!!
"come on then Jenny, I cant be late for work." We began walking and all I could hear now was her high heels shoes clip to the floor as we walked, "don't they hurt your feet I say concerned?" "Yeah but look how cute they look, 3 of my wages these babies." As she replies playfully. "Gosh Jenny!! That's allot of money." but before I could say anything else she shuts me up, by putting her hand up to object. "That's enough out of you madam just because you save doesn't mean I have to. Live a little Ellie." I c**k an eyebrow in response amused at what comes out of her mouth, its like she is my older sister bossy and cocky.
We enter the club, sweat and cheap perfume is the first thing that hits my noes. Along with the sight of men and women grinding on each other its enough to make me cringe. I am not much of the social sort, just my close friends. Its quite dark and gloomy but there are lights going on and off on the dance floor, its loud with the 2000 music playing.
I hurry past all the s****l tension up to the bar, I hadn't noticed Jenny leave my side she must of been in a hurry to see Jake, I don't know why she bothers honestly but whatever makes her happy.
"Hello bar man". I shout to try startle him. He laughs while he shakes his head "not gunna catch me out that easy" with an amused look on his face. His name is Luke but we just call him bar man it stuck and he doesn't mind, he is a soft and gentle soul. "Ellie how are you?" His sweet smile appears on his lips thankful that I'm here. "I'm good bar man, it looks busy tonight." As I look around disappointed as I was hoping to leave early to finish my assignments. I think he notices, as his response was gentle and calming "don't worry Ellie if it gets to late I will close up tonight." "oh thankyou" as I start to clap. Barman starts to giggle "not much to make you happy eh Ellie." I blush at his response. "I better get to work then I'll speak to you later these tables are not going to clean themselves."
As I work my way around the tables, I have a look around to see if I can see Jenny but she is nowhere in sight. She cant be upstairs not without reason that's where the elite gather and spend there time after whatever they do. Men and women usually just gawk at them from downstairs including jenny. she wouldn't go up. Even she's not that brave. The only ones that go up are cleaners, or waiters. Maybe she is in the toilets or gone out for some fresh air?
"Ellie" a female voice takes me out of my thoughts.
"Ellie can you take upstairs today?" Jessie pleaded, She is one of my work colleague, she acts like she owns the whole place its quite annoying really. But we just let her get on with it.
My mouth is little open shocked to her words. "What do you mean can I do upstairs today." my startled response took her in surprise as she didn't respond back straight away.
Jessie starts patting down her black apron that she has tied to her waist before scoffing out "Candice cant make it in tonight, she not too well." sounding a little desperate.
"Why can't you do it" I abruptly respond while gesturing to the table I haven't finished cleaning.
"Oh come on Ellie I have to much on down here." Jessie desperately says while waving her hands up in the air with her rag flying about in her hand that she just took out of her apron.
"More like you don't wanna do it because of the elite" I muttered under my breath.
"I'll do it" while letting out a defeated sigh. Not so pleased but what can I do iv only had this job a couple of months, and she will properly go blab to our manager if I refuse. I cant go around looking for another job this one was hard enough to get.
As I walk up the stairs, I open the 2 big doors in front of me, the first thing I see is a big built man standing there, bodyguard I think? He swung his arm out as to warn me I shouldn't be up here. I soon reply with a not so confidant voice. "I'm here to serve. As Candice cant make it tonight," he soon notices my nerves and just motions with his head to go on it.
My mind cant believe what I am seeing.
I can't believe I'm in the same place, even the smell is different. Expensive cologne mixed with cigars and expensive whisky.
I stood still after taking a couple of steps into the room as I didn't know what to do next. Should I approach them or shall I wait to be called. Damn!! I realized I didn't ask Jessie. F**k.
As I take in my surroundings the first thing I notice was the luxurious chandelier hanging from the freshly painted ceiling. Not like you could miss it, it was huge. The marbled floor cleaned to perfection. You could see your own reflection staring back at you as you look down. The glass windows not a stain or fingerprint in sight, you could see everyone in the club from up here. There where some empty table and chairs around one big oak table. Where less then a dozen men and women where sat at.
All talking and laughing. They where the most beautiful looking people I had ever laid eyes on. My mouth just gawked open with the sight. The aura there letting off is something I have never felt before.
They must be the elite.
That's when I saw them. Looking straight at me and I'm just standing there clueless.
