by Clifford Ball (1908-1947?) is one of those authors whose name sounds vaguely familiar, but you can’t quite place. At least, that’s the reaction I had when rereading “The Werewolf Howls,” from the November-December 1941 issue of Weird Tales. Had I read more of his work, perhaps a novel? Weird TalesA little digging turned up some facts about his fiction: apparently, he only published six stories, and all appeared in Weird Tales. He was apparently a fan as well as an author: a letter from him appears in the January, 1937 issue of WT, several months before his first story there. And most of his work was published in the span of a few years—between 1937 and 1939—although one straggler did appear in 1941. Weird TalesWTHere are his complete publishing credits: “Duar the Accursed,” May 1937
