My heartbeat quickened with every step I took. It felt so loud in my ears that I was convinced everyone around me could hear it.
I wasn't ready for whatever awaited me.
The thought of facing the Alpha was enough to make my stomach twist. I tried to calm myself, but it was nearly impossible.
Ever since our first meeting, everything had gone from bad to worse.
So I had no illusions that this encounter would be any different.
If anything, I was expecting another disaster.
The only sound was our footsteps against the polished floor as we climbed the staircase leading to the upper level.
Silence remained between us.
Maybe she was nervous like me.
Or maybe she knew something I didn't.
