Elena’s fingers moved quickly across her phone screen as she responded to Diego's message.
“Please follow Miriam's instructions, and know how to handle Lucian while I’m away…” Elena responded.
Then the doorbell rang sharply.
“Ding dong”
Startled, Elena placed her phone down, but Diego asked her to sit back while he hurried toward the door.
When he opened it, standing there was Dolphus and beside him Aaron stood silently, a suitcase nearly as tall as him resting at his side.
Diego immediately excused himself and left.
Dolphus’s large hand rested gently on the boy’s head.
Elena welcomed them, then bent down immediately as she scooped Aaron into her arms. The boy clung to her neck.
“I can handle this from here,” Dolphus murmured, stepping forward to take the suitcase from him.
