Emily's pov
It's finally Friday.
This week has been exhausting. Mom and Dad left for New York yesterday, so Michael and I have the house to ourselves. I've been looking forward to Chloe's farewell party all week—it feels like the perfect way to end such a stressful few days.
I'm wearing a short blue dress that hugs my figure perfectly. After putting the finishing touches on my makeup, I grab my bag and head out the door.
Michael left earlier because he wanted to meet up with his friends before the party.
I haven't seen Jason since Monday. He's been busy with basketball practice, while I've been occupied with packing for our move to New York. He offered to pick me up, but I suggested we meet at the party instead.
I couldn't wait to see him again.
I had just arrived at the party. The place was packed, but I couldn't find Chloe or Jason anywhere. The first person I spotted was Stella, drink in hand.
"Hi. How are you feeling now?" I asked.
"Much better, babe," Stella replied with a smile.
"Have you seen Chloe?" I asked.
"No, but she should be around somewhere. Enjoy yourself—this is your last Friday here," Stella said.
"You're right. I'll probably see her later," I replied.
I decided to relax and enjoy the party. Stella handed me a drink, and before long, I was actually having fun.
An hour passed, and I still hadn't seen Chloe or Jason.
Jason is probably with the guys out back, I thought.
I headed upstairs to look for Chloe, but she wasn't in the hallway. Then I realized I hadn't checked her room.
The moment I stepped inside, my heart stopped.
Chloe was kissing Jason.
My boyfriend of three years was kissing my best friend.
They didn't notice I was there until tears started streaming down my face.
Betrayed by the two people I trusted most.
"Oh my God, Emily! It's not what you think," Jason said, quickly pulling away.
Chloe stood frozen, her face drained of color.
"How could you?" My voice cracked. "I trusted both of you."
I turned around and walked away without giving either of them the chance to explain.
Jason chased after me and caught up with me on the stairs. He grabbed my hand, but I yanked it away immediately.
The music faded as people began staring at us. The party came to an abrupt halt.
"Emily! What's going on?" Stella called after me, but I didn't stop.
I ran outside.
Michael saw me the moment I stepped out. One look at my tear-stained face was all it took for him to understand that something was terribly wrong.
He didn't ask any questions.
He simply drove me home while I cried silently in the passenger seat.
The moment we got home, I rushed upstairs. I tore off the dress I'd spent so long choosing just to impress Jason.
My phone wouldn't stop buzzing.
Call after call. Message after message from Jason and Stella
I switched it off without reading a single one.
I curled up on my bed, feeling completely numb.
Just like that, he had thrown away three years of our relationship.
The image of Jason gently cupping Chloe's face while she smiled into the kiss refused to leave my mind. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw them together all over again.
How could they do this to me?.
The two people I loved and trusted the most had shattered my heart in a matter of seconds.
I couldn't stay here anymore.
Maybe moving to New York wouldn't be so bad after all.
Maybe a new city was exactly what I needed.
A fresh start.
Far away from Jason.
Far away from Chloe.
Far away from every memory that now felt like a lie.
