Chapter Nine – The Hunters’ Shadows

585 Words
The days passed in a blur of uncertainty. Lyanna’s mind churned with the decision the Moon Priestess had set before her. The weight of the prophecy sat heavy on her shoulders, and no matter how hard she tried to ignore it, the pull of her fate was undeniable. And then—they arrived. Whispers of movement spread through the palace like wildfire, each word more frantic than the last. The hunters, the very ones who had plagued the packs for years, had finally found their way to the heart of lycan territory. Lyanna paced in her chambers, her thoughts consumed by the prophecy, by Kieran, and by the future. Her bond with him was growing stronger, and with every passing day, she could feel her own power awakening. But the weight of the choice still lingered. Luna growled low in her chest, sensing the approaching danger. A knock at the door startled her from her thoughts. Before she could answer, the door opened, and Kieran stepped inside. His expression was grim, his eyes cold with purpose. “They’ve arrived,” he said, his voice a low growl. Lyanna felt her stomach drop. “The hunters?” Kieran nodded. “They’ve been spotted near the outskirts of the palace, moving toward the capital. They’ve gathered a large force. This is no simple raid—they’re here to end us.” Fear twisted in Lyanna’s gut, but she stood tall, her chin raised. “We’ll fight back.” Kieran’s gaze softened for a moment, and his lips almost curved into a smile. “You’re beginning to understand your power.” “I don’t care about my power,” Lyanna shot back. “I care about stopping them.” Kieran’s eyes hardened again, his wolf ready to spring at any moment. “And you will. But we need to prepare. Tonight, we move out. We’ll take the fight to them before they can reach the heart of the kingdom.” Lyanna clenched her fists. She knew that this was only the beginning. The choice before her weighed even heavier now—if the hunters were this close, the battle was already upon them. But there was something else, something more. “You know, don’t you?” Lyanna asked, her voice barely above a whisper. Kieran met her gaze, his eyes dark with the unspoken truth. “I know. But the fight with the hunters is only part of it. You have a destiny, Lyanna, and it’s tied to the throne, to everything we’ve been fighting for.” “And what about the prophecy?” she asked, her voice tight. “What if I can’t handle it? What if I’m not strong enough?” Kieran stepped forward, his hand reaching for hers, his touch warm and reassuring. “You are stronger than you think, Lyanna. I’ve seen it in you. You don’t need to walk this path alone. Not anymore.” Before she could respond, a roar echoed from the courtyard, the sound of a lycan’s fury ripping through the air. The ground shook beneath her feet. “They’re here,” Kieran said, his voice a deadly whisper. Without another word, he turned and hurried out of the room. Lyanna followed, her heart racing as the adrenaline surged through her veins. The battle had begun. But as she stepped out into the cold night, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something darker was watching them from the shadows. And the hunters weren’t the only threat they had to face.
