Silence stretched between them, thick with shock and something darker. Lyanna’s heart thundered as she took a shaky step back. “A... lycan?” she whispered, unsure if she should run or bow. His eyes narrowed. “And you’re a werewolf.” He said it like a curse. Her throat tightened. “You said… I’m your mate?” He looked away for the briefest second—like the truth stung. “Yes. But that’s impossible.” Lyanna blinked. “Why?” He didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he circled her like a predator unsure of his prey. “You’re not supposed to be mine. Fate must be playing some cruel trick.” Why does everyone reject me? The thought clawed at her chest. “Then reject me,” she whispered, tears threatening again. The King stilled. “I can’t,” he growled. “The bond is too strong. It shouldn’t be—but it is.” She swallowed hard. “Then what do we do?” His gaze softened for the first time. “You ran from your pack, didn’t you?” She nodded slowly. “Then you’re in my territory now,” he said, voice colder again. “And until I figure out what the Moon Goddess is playing at, you’re staying here. With me.” Lyanna’s breath hitched. She wasn’t sure if it was safety or danger she felt. But one thing was certain: nothing would ever be the same again. ---
