“We need to leave,” Kieran said beside her, his voice deep and urgent. “This place is a beacon now. The others will come.”
Lyanna nodded. Her legs felt like lead, but she forced them to move. Every step away from the temple was a reminder of how far she had come—and how far she still had to go.
They reached the outskirts of the forest just as the sun dipped below the horizon. The palace loomed in the distance, battered from the assault but still standing, like the kingdom itself.
Elira was waiting for them, her arms crossed. Relief flickered in her eyes, though she masked it quickly. “You’re alive,” she said.
“Barely,” Lyanna replied. Her voice was dry.
Kieran approached his sister. “The hunters are regrouping. The leader may be down, but they’ll come back stronger—and angrier.”
Lyanna stayed quiet, her gaze on the palace. For the first time, it didn’t feel like a prison. It felt like something worth protecting.
She clenched her fists. “Then we need to be ready. I’m not going to run anymore.”
Kieran looked at her, something shifting in his gaze—respect, and something deeper.
“You don’t have to face this alone,” he said, stepping closer.
She met his eyes. “I know. But I have to be strong enough… for all of us.”
That night, Lyanna stood under the moonlight on the palace balcony, her silver hair flowing in the wind. Luna stirred inside her, not wild, not uncontrolled—but calm.
